St. Cloud and Waterloo are now tied for first place in the North with a 20-11 record after the Bucks dropped both games of a doubleheader and the Rox defeated Thunder Bay. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters dropped both games of a doubleheader to Madison. Kenosha and Rockford rained out tonight, but the Kingfish are now just four games back after the Rafters’ setbacks.

Waterloo 11, Rochester 15 (Game 1) (7 Innings)

The Rochester Honkers scored eight right away and held off a late rally to defeat the Waterloo Bucks 15-11 in a seven-inning game. The Bucks scored first in top half of the opening inning when Jay Schuyler (San Diego) hit an RBI double and scored from an RBI single. Rochester then broke the game open in the bottom half with eight. Ryan Fitzpatrick (UC Irvine) started things with a two-RBI single and later scored from another two-run single. Two more RBI singles brought in the other four for Rochester. Michael Michalak (DMACC) hit an RBI single in the fifth and Johnathan Fleek (Western Illinois) added two more with a home run. Waterloo began to come back with four in the sixth which included a two-run shot by Schuyler. Rochester extended their lead in the bottom half with four of their own which included a two-run home run by Fitzpatrick. With the Bucks down nine with two outs in the seventh, Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) scored from a sac fly and Schuyler hit a three-run shot. The Honkers came back to get the next batter to fly out and win the game.

Waterloo 3, Rochester 9 (Game 2)

The Rochester Honkers used the middle innings to score six and defeat the Waterloo Bucks 9-3. The Honkers scored first in the bottom half of the opening inning when Zach Zubia (Texas) hit a two-run home run. The Bucks got one back in the third when Keaton Presley (Central Arkansas) scored from a sac fly. Waterloo then took the lead for a half inning when Dalton Hurd (Seattle) hit an RBI single and scored from another RBI single. Rochester then scored a pair in the fifth to go ahead for good from a double by Morgan McCullough (Oregon). Rochester got two home runs in the sixth when Zubia hit his second of the day with a three-run shot and Michael Michalak (DMACC) hit a solo home run. Michalak hit his second in the eighth which was a leadoff solo shot to end up being the final score.

Eau Claire 0, Mankato 14 (Game 1)

The Mankato MoonDogs poured it on Eau Claire 14-0 in a seven-inning game. The MoonDogs scored five right away in the opening inning. Ethan Valdez (Nicholls State) hit a two-run double to get things going and he later scored from an RBI single. Back-to-back RBI doubles scored the next two. Mankato got one in the second from a sac fly. The MoonDogs added three more in the third which included an RBI triple by Daniel Amaral. Mankato tacked on one in the fifth from an error and four in the sixth which started from a bases-clearing double by Kyle Cuellar (UCLA). The MoonDogs got 5.1 out of Nichols Belzer (Minnesota State) as he only allowed two hits on one walk while striking out five.

Madison 4, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 3 (Game 1) (10 Innings)

The Madison Mallards needed 10 innings to defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-3 in a game that was only supposed to go seven. The Mallards scored twice for the first runs of the game in the opening inning. Doran Turchin (Illinois) hit an RBI double and he scored from an RBI single. Wyatt Mascarella (McHenry CC) put Rapids on the board in the second from an RBI single. Christian Jones (Campbell) then tied it for the Rafters in the fourth from a solo home run. The game went scoreless through the seventh as both teams went down in order. Madison finally scored in the tenth when Jake Snider (Louisville) scored on a sac fly and Turchin scoring from an error. Rapids came within one of tying the game from a solo shot by Jake Guenther (Sacramento City CC), but Madison got the next outs from strikeouts to end the game.

Battle Creek 6, Fond du Lac 5

The Battle Creek Bombers chipped away at their deficit all game to defeat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 6-5. The Spiders were first on the board with four in the opening inning. Brandon Wulff (Stanford) got things going with a two-run single. He later scored in the inning from the first of back-to-back RBI doubles. Jordan Getzelman (Menlo) scored the first run for Battle Creek in the second from a sac fly. The Bombers cut their deficit in half in the fourth from a solo shot by Justin Felix (Arkansas State). Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) tied the game for Battle Creek in the seventh from a two-run home run. Cody Hawken (Portland) then went yard in the eighth from a two-run shot, but Fondy got one back in the bottom half. Mark Quinby (UC San Diego) then came in the ninth and retired the Spiders in order, to earn his third save of the season.

Kalamazoo 3, Lakeshore 5

The Lakeshore Chinooks used runs in the middle innings to pull ahead and defeat the Kalamazoo Growlers 5-3. The Chinooks were first on the board in the third when Rylan Thomas (Central Florida) hit a two-run double and he later scored from an RBI single.  The Growlers got on the board in the fourth when Mitch Bigras (Boston College) scored on an RBI ground out. Lakeshore managed to score two more times from RBI singles in the fifth and sixth. Kalamazoo attempted a comeback in the eighth when Charlie Carpenter (USC Upstate) hit a two-run home run. Joe Heineman (Baylor) then came in to pick up a two-inning save for his first of the season.  

Mankato 3, Eau Claire 4 (Game 2) (7 innings)

 The Eau Claire Express pulled ahead in the fifth and never looked back as they defeated the Mankato MoonDogs in a seven-inning game. The MoonDogs scored a pair right away in the first when Alvaro Rubalcaba (CSUN) came home from an RBI fielder’s choice and Christopher Schaeffer (Western Illinois) hit an RBI single. Eau Claire got one back in the second when Luke Bandy (Dallas Baptist) came across from an RBI ground out. Mankato added one more in the third from an RBI single, but the Express managed to take the lead in the fifth. The scoring started with a bases loaded hit by pitch and two more came from an error by the center fielder. Victor Chavez (Scottsdale CC) then came in to pitch a scoreless seventh for his fourth save of the season.

Thunder Bay 4, St. Cloud 11

The St. Cloud Rox scored right away and later in the game to hold on and defeat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 11-4. The Rox got a pair in the first when Keaton Kringlen (BYU) hit a two-run single. The game went scoreless until St. Cloud managed to break the game open for six in the sixth. The scoring started with three straight walks with the bases loaded and an error, wild pitch and RBI single brought in the others. Thunder Bay finally struck for four in the seventh to cut their deficit in half. The inning started with a Colton Thomas (South Alabama) who later scored from an RBI single by Andy Weber (Virginia). Two bases loaded walks and another RBI single brought in the other runs. The Rox got one back in the bottom half from an RBI single and Matthew Tarantino (Pacific) then hit a two-run shot in the eighth to give St. Cloud what would be the final score.

Duluth 2, Bismarck 11

The Bismarck Larks broke the game open in the third as they defeated the Duluth Huskies 11-2. The Larks got their first run of the game in the bottom half of the opening inning when Connor Perry (Pittsburgh) scored from an error by the catcher. The Larks then added another five in the third which started from Noah Sadler (Illinois State) hitting an RBI single. Bismarck got two more in the fifth in consecutive at bats from an RBI triple by Newt Johnson (South Dakota State) and an RBI single by Cooper Coldiron (Houston). The Huskies would get their two runs in the sixth when Camryn Williams (Dallas Baptist) scored on an RBI ground out and Jake Pries (UCLA) came home from a wild pitch. Bismarck answered back for three in the sixth from all RBI singles. The Larks’ bullpen threw the final three scoreless to secure the win.

Madison 12, Wisconsin Rapids 10  (Game 2) (8 Innings)

The Madison Mallards needed eight innings in a seven-inning game to defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 12-10 for the second time today. The Mallards exploded for six in the fourth which started from Cole Daily (Notre Dame) scoring on an error by the first basemen. Back-to-back RBI singles by Thomas Smart (Oakton) and Kian O’Brien (Madison College) brought in two more while a bases loaded walk and a two-run single added three. Bryson Stott (UNLV) put Rapids on the board with an RBI single in the fifth and Charlie McConnell (Northeastern) brought them within four when he scored from a bases loaded walk. The Rafters then took the lead with a big seven-run sixth inning. McConnell hit an RBI single to get the scoring going. He then came home for the fourth run of the inning from a two-run single. Three more RBI singles put Rapids’ total to nine for the game. Madison forced extra innings when they got three in the seventh from Camacho driving in two from a double and later scoring form an RBI single. Doran Turchin (Illinois) finally put the Mallards ahead for good in the eighth from a three-run home run. Stott kept Rapids in the game when he scored in the bottom of the eighth from a bases loaded hit by pitch, but the Mallards got the next guy to ground out to end the game.

La Crosse 17, Willmar 1

The La Crosse Loggers got out to a huge lead early and never looked back as they defeated the Willmar Stingers 17-1. The big La Crosse second inning that went for eight runs started with Cameron Blake (Texas A&M) hitting a two-run single. He later scored the fourth run from a wild pitch and another wild pitch plated the fifth run. Luke Rasmussen (Long Beach State) put a cap on the scoring from a bases-clearing triple to center. The Stinger managed just one in the bottom half which came from an RBI single by Caleb Ledbetter (Montevallo). The Loggers got two in the third from sacrifice fly outs and two more in the fourth from an RBI ground out and an RBI single by Ryan Mantle (Jefferson CC). Cameron Cannon (Arizona) then continued to pour it on with a grand slam in the sixth. La Crosse added on last one in the eighth from an RBI single. Starter Derik Beauprez (Nova SE) threw five, only allowed one earned and Sam Messina (Army) threw the final four scoreless to end the game.

Wisconsin 1, Green Bay 0

The Wisconsin Woodchucks used three pitchers to shutout the Green Bay Bullfrogs 1-0. The only run of the ballgame came in the sixth when Tristan Clarke (New Orleans) hit a solo shot for the Chucks. Connor Wollersheim (Kent State) started the game locked in a pitcher’s duel with Gordon Cardenas (Auburn). Wollersheim threw five scoreless until the one run in the sixth while only allowing a total of four hits and one walk while striking out seven. Cardenas picked up his first win of the season after throwing five scoreless. He only allowed one hit and two walks while striking out three. The Chucks got 2.2 scoreless from Armando Gonzalez (Barry) and 1.1 from Daniel Sprinkle (Auburn) while he earned his first save of the season.
