Day 1 of the Northwoods League Playoffs…let’s get it started!

The Eau Claire Express defeated the Waterloo Bucks with a close ending game score of 2-1. Eau Claire’s Nick Alvarado (Illinois-Springfield) pitched six innings giving up one run on four hits with four strike outs. The Madison Mallards crushed the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 9-2. The Mallards had a total of nine runs and twelve hits throughout tonight’s game.

Eau Claire Express 2, Waterloo Bucks 1

The Eau Claire Express rallied for the win against the Waterloo Bucks during game #1 of the playoffs by a score of 2-1. The Express had a total of two runs and five hits during tonight’s battle. Waterloo’s Dylan Phillips (Kansas State) had one home run while Eau Claire’s David La Manna (Notre Dame) had two RBI. The winning pitcher was Nick Alvarado (Illinois-Springfield) who gave up one run with four strike outs during his six innings on the mound. Eau Claire’s Kuster Kinlecheenie (Montevallo) recorded the save. The Bucks losing pitcher was Jack Parkinson (Rutgers) who pitched seven innings with two runs and three strike outs. 

Willmar Stingers 4, St. Cloud Rox 1

The Willmar Stinger won game #1 of the playoffs against the St. Cloud Rox 4-1. The Stingers had a total of four runs and eleven hits in the game. Justin King (Alabama) hit one double for the Stingers. Another solid performance was by teammates Riley Johnson (Augustana University), Brandon Bohning (CSU-Northridge), and Luke Bowman (St. Cloud State) with each driving in runs for Willmar. The winning pitcher was Polo Portela (Cumberland) who pitched seven innings with one runs, four hits, and seven strike outs. Aldo Fernandez (New Mexico State) came in for the save while the losing pitcher was St. Cloud’s Trevor Koenig (St. Cloud State).  

Madison Mallards 9, Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 2

The Madison Mallards beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 9-2. Madison demolished the seventh inning scoring eight runs to capture the lead over the Rapids Rafters. Logan Michaels (Virginia) had a solid performance with two RBI and one triple for the Mallards while Timo Schau (Southern-Wesleyan) had one RBI and one double. The winning pitcher was Quinn Gudaitis (Illinois Wesleyan University) who gave up one run and had six strike outs during his seven innings of work. The losing pitcher was Hayden Petrovick (UC Riverside). 

Traverse City Pit Spitters 8, Kalamazoo Growlers 1

The Traverse City Pit Spitters dominated the Kalamazoo Growlers with a final score of 8-1. The Pit Spitters had a strong seventh inning scoring seven runs during game #1 of the playoffs. Andrew Morrow (Michigan State) had a triple and drove in a run for Traverse City. Another solid performance was by Mario Camilletti (Oakland University), Christian Faust (Grand Valley State), and Nick Powell (Ball State) who each received two RBI. The winning pitcher was Chad Patrick (Purdue Northwest) who pitched seven innings allowing one run on three hits with four strike outs. The losing pitcher was Kalamazoo’s JT Rogoszewski (Central Michigan).
