The Mandan Flickertails will enter the championship series of the North Dakota pod on a winning note after they easily beat the Bull Moose Monday night. The Flickertails will take on the Bismarck Larks starting Wednesday at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. In Kalamazoo, it was the Battle Creek Bombers who came out on top, as they swept the Kalamazoo Mac Daddies in a doubleheader.

The Bombers broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to take the first game of the night from the Mac Daddies. Josh Swinehart (Western Michigan) was the hero for Battle Creek, delivering a bases loaded double into left field to give the Bombers the lead. Greg Budig (Western Michigan) was the offensive leader for the Bombers, going 2-3 with an RBI. Swinehart was 1-3, with the only extra base hit of the game for Battle Creek. Pete Theodorellis (Molloy College) threw two shutout innings, recording two strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.

Budig hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give the Bombers the only run of the nightcap, enabling them to sweep the Mac Daddies in a doubleheader. Tyler Carper (Minnesota-Morris) was the star of the game, throwing a complete game, allowing three hits, three walks and recording a pair of strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season. Drew Dyer (Carthage College) and Theodorellis had the other hits for the Bombers, who only managed three hits on the game. Kyle Ashworth (Cal Poly) was 2-2 for the Mac Daddies, who also had three hits as a team.

The Resorters scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to narrowly escape with a 4-3 win over the Pit Spitters Monday night. Champ Davison (Nicholls State) was 2-4 for the Resorters with a run scored. Chase Bessard (Lansing CC) was 1-3, with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Aaron Hurd (Lyon College) and Anthony Poh (Davenport University) also picked up RBI for the Resorters. Jonathan Russomano (Corban University) picked up the win, throwing three and two-thirds of an inning, with three strikeouts. Jeffrey Millet (Ramapo College) threw two innings, allowing a run on a hit to earn his second save of the season.

The outcome of Monday’s game was never in doubt for the Flickertails, as they scored early and often en route to a 13-5 win. Tyler Keith (Post University) went 2-2 for the Flickertails, with four RBI and two runs scored. Justin Janssen (Illinois Central College) was 1-5, with a home run and three RBI. Robert Mattei (Hope International University) and Aj Kostic (Dawson CC) both had a pair of RBI for the Flickertails offense. Janssen also got the job done on the mound, throwing four innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Mattei threw three scoreless innings after coming on in relief, while Jason Dressel (Hope International University) had one inning, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout to lock down the game.
