Sunday’s game wrapped up week two of the Northwoods League. With many rallied wins teams such as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and the Duluth Huskies remain at the top of the leaderboards. The Green Bay Rockers are working their way back in the win column with an outstanding pitching performance by Dylan Carter.

Kalamazoo Growlers 7, Battle Creek Battle Jacks 2

For their fifth win of the season the Kalamazoo Growlers rally back to defeat the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 7-5. Down by one run going into the top of the third with runners on first and second Luke Storm (Duke University) drove an RBI single to score two runs. Storm went 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI. Ryan Dykstra (Oakland University) scored the final two runs of the game with a single to center field.

Wausau Woodchucks 7, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 3

The Wausau Woodchucks defeat the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 7-3. Hunter Dorraugh (San Jose State University) led his team with three hits including his first two home runs and RBI of the season. Brent Widder (University of Evansville) and Tre Hondras (John A. Logan Community College) both had home runs as well with two RBI each. The Woodchucks hits three of their four home runs in the fourth inning.

Green Bay Rocker 7, Lakeshore Chinooks 0

In a scoreless game the Green Bay Rockers defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks 7-0. Dylan Carter (University of Arkansas) threw a complete nine innings for the Rockers with eight strikeouts, giving up five hits and allowed zero runs to score. Carter earned Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night with his amazing performance. The Rockers scored their first runs of the game in the third inning with a RBI singles by Keniel De Leon (Long Island University – Brooklyn) and Nainoa Cardinez. Cardinez (University of Hawaii) had two hits with two RBI.

Eau Claire Express 8, Mankato MoonDogs 4 

The Eau Claire Express take down the Mankato MoonDogs 8-4 for their eighth win of the season. Charlie Szykowny (University of Wisconsin – Stout) led his team with two hits including a double, home run and three RBI. Joe Yorke (California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) contributed to the offense with a single, double and two RBI. The Express scored four runs in the fifth inning starting with an RBI triple by Reed Latimer (University of Montevallo). Laitmer had two hits and two RBI.

Duluth Huskies 8, Rochester Honkers 5

The Duluth Huskies take the first win of the series against the Rochester Honkers 8-5. Devin Dodson (Friends University) was the starting pitcher for the Huskies throwing six innings with eight six strikeouts and allowed only two runs to score. Jd Rogers (Vanderbilt University) earned Northwoods League Player of the Night with 3 doubles and two RBI. Bobby Blandford (Fresno State University) also had three hits including a single, double and triple.

Madison Mallards 6, Kokomo Jackrabbits 1

The Madison Mallards defeated the Kokomo Jackrabbits 6-1. The Mallards struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning with an RBI double by Marcus Brodil (University of South Florida) and an RBI single by Javier Beal (Southeastern Illinois College). Heading into the top of the six with the Mallards up by three runs, J.T Mabry (Middle Tennessee State University) and Tommy Tavarez (University of Pittsburgh) blasted back to back home runs to provide insurance runs. Mabry also had a double in the fourth.

Willmar Stingers 3, St.Cloud Rox 1

The Willmar Stingers gave the St.Cloud Rox their second loss of the season with a score of 3-1. Jack Habeck (St. Cloud State University) started on the mound throwing nearly a complete game with eight innings pitched, three strikeouts and allowed one run to score. The Stingers scored their first two runs in the third inning with an RBI single by Aidan Byrne (Minnesota State University, Mankato) and an RBI double by Drey Dirksen (Augustana University) to follow it up. Joey Walls (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) crushed his first home run over the left field fence to score the final run in the ninth inning.

Traverse City Pit Spitters 7, Rockford Rivets 1

For an at home win, the Traverse City Pit Spitters defeat the Rockford Rivets 7-1. Marshall Toole (Wofford College) led his team with three singles and scored twice as he reached first base. Evan Orzech (Saint Xavier University) and Colin Summerhill (Troy University) both had back to back singles scoring two runs in their explosive seventh inning. Aren Gustafson (Olivet Nazarene University) had the win on the mound, throwing seven innings with six strikeouts and allowing zero runs to score.

Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 2, Kenosha Kingfish 1

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters took down the Kenosha Kingfish 2-1. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning tied 1-1 Chase Call (University of California, Irvine) hit a single to advance to first and later scored by an RBI single hit by Joe Osborn (Doane College). After taking the lead 2-1 the Rafters were able to hold their lead for the rest of the game. Stone Miyao (University of Hawaii) had two hits including a single and a double.

La Crosse Loggers 12, Bismarck Larks 8

The La Crosse Loggers take down the Bismarck Larks 12-8 for their first win of the series. Spencer Sarringar (Northern State University) led his team with a grand slam in the fourth inning. Jake Hjelle (University of Minnesota-Crookston) provided the team with their second run of the game with a home run over the center field fence. The team combined for 11 hits on the day with multi hits games from four players.
