Duluth Huskies Front Office
Born and raised in Duluth, Michael has had a love affair with baseball his entire life. He has been known to rarely travel to a city that doesn’t have some kind of a baseball team to watch. Michael has been a coach for Central Little League for 16 years. He has been a sponsor for many Huskies promotional nights including Huskies Gnome Night, batting helmet and team baseball cards giveaway. Michael has been a financial adviser for more than 31 years retiring in October of 2017. He now spends full time with the Duluth Huskies. Michael is married to Betsy and has two sons, Mike and Sam.
A native of Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, Greg started his Huskies career in Corporate & Group Sales; Stadium Operations during the 2015 season and was named General Manager after the season ended. Previous to his Huskies career, Greg served 24 years with the Duluth News Tribune primarily in Advertising. Greg grew up playing baseball in Northern Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point. When not living and breathing baseball you can find him on the local golf courses as he is a member of both Poplar Golf course and Norwood Golf course. Greg is married to wife Sarah and they reside in Duluth.
Darrell Kyle is returning for his second year as the chaplain for the Huskies. He is an avid baseball fan and was recently vindicated for his long-suffering devotion to the Chicago Cubs. Darrel is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon, Wi and a member of the Air National where he was recently deployed to Afghanistan. Darrell loves the game and its players and most enjoys coming out to spend time with the players and watch the games with his family.
2018 Intern Managers
Mass Media & Ticket Operations Intern/ Summer Intern Manager
Becca is from Duluth Minnesota. She started out selling tickets for the Huskies in 2015 and was the Ticket Operations Supervisor in the 2017 season. She is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and is majoring in Business Management. Her favorite past times are going to any sporting event with her friends or volunteering in the community wherever possible. On the off-season, she has been spending her time as the Mass Media and Ticket Operations Intern and training in the new interns wherever needed. Besides the Huskies, she works at the DECC in Guest Services and mentors students in the Education Success Center at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She is also excited to see what the 2018 season has in store!
Intern Manager of Gameday Operations
Lizzy Farrell is joining the Huskies for her third season. Originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She graduated from Minnesota Duluth in May of 2017 with a degree in marketing. She spent two summers with the Eau Claire Express before joining the Duluth Huskies. This summer she will be splitting her time at UMD as well as the Huskies. She grew up playing softball as well as a couple other sports. Lizzy has been a huge Green Bay Packers fan as well as a Minnesota Twins. She likes to go fishing and golfing when she has time.

Marketing and Gameday Operations Intern
Leah Barrett will be entering her senior year at the University of Minnesota Duluth Fall of 2018. Leah is pursuing a degree in sports marketing. She comes from St. Paul, Minnesota where she learned to play softball at a young age. Leah has not only been an athlete her whole life but is a huge fan of the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild. Sports have been a huge part of Leah’s life and she hopes she can have a career in baseball someday.
Gameday Operations/ Entertainment
John Falcone is a junior year at the State University of New York at Old Westbury. John is pursuing a degree in Professional Studies as well as a minor in Sports Entertainment. He comes from Oyster Bay, New York where he ran for the Oyster Bay High School track team for 4 years. He was also the announcer for Oyster Bay High School’s morning announcements over the loud speaker. John has not only been a morning announcer in high school, but he also works in the Sports Information Department at SUNY Old Westbury too. John helps out with P.A. announcing, music, and statistics keeping for the past 3 years. He is a huge fan of the New York Mets, New York Islanders, New York Jets, and New York Knicks. Sports have been a huge part of John’s life and he hopes he can have a career somewhere in the sports industry someday.
Co Clubhouse Manager
Annika Hammitt, from Cloquet, Minnesota, will be entering her senior year at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in the fall. She is majoring in human resource management and will be graduating in May 2019. This will be her first year interning with the Duluth Huskies and she is looking forward to the opportunity. Having grown up with three older brothers, she quickly became a sports fan with her favorite professional teams being the Twins, Wild and Vikings. Not only does she like watching sports she participates as well. She played hockey in high school and continues to play on intramural teams at college. Her biggest passion is stock car racing! You may remember her bringing her car to Wade Stadium last year as part of the Women in Racing night. Annika started racing at the age of 14 and this summer will be her seventh season driving on the track. After having raced in the pure stock division previously, this will be her first year moving up a class and driving a super stock.
Annika is excited for the internship and learning more about the Huskies organization and can’t wait for the season to start!
Jackson is originally from Stoughton, WI and is currently a rising sophomore at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He is studying mathematics and is planning on minoring in Spanish and Computer Science. At the university, he is a part of various clubs including the Sports Analytics Club, Sport Management Association, and The University Running Club. This is his first season with the Huskies and he will be a part of the analytics team. He is very excited about the opportunity to be a part of a great organization!
Gameday Operations Intern
Logan is from Clear Lake, Iowa. He has an identical twin brother, along with a younger brother and sister. He is currently a junior studying Sports Management and Finance at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. He is a member of Buena Vista University golf team along with both brothers. Logan’s favorite sports teams are the St. Louis Cardinals, and Iowa State Cyclones.
Official Team Scorer
Jim Kummer is from Hastings, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a major in Business Marketing and a minor in Information Technology. Jim will be the official scorekeeper for the Huskies this year. Baseball is a big part of his life and he hopes to one day work for the Minnesota Twins in their marketing department.
Gameday Operations Intern
Bret is from Klamath Falls, Oregon. She is majoring in sports management at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She will be graduating in December, and will be playing her last year of collegiate soccer this fall at Parkside. Bret enjoys being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and working out. She looks forward to interning with the Huskies this summer and gaining her experience.
Tony is a Duluth native. He is a rising junior at Saint John’s University (SJU) in Collegeville, MN. He is currently majoring in Economics with minors in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Exercise Science/Sports Studies. Tony works as an Athletic Media Relations Assistant at SJU where he manages and writes for the webpage, conducts player interviews, records live statistics, and consults on analytics. Tony is very excited to be joining the Huskies for his first year as an analytics intern.

Ryan is a senior at UWS working towards a degree in Physical Education with an Exercise Science concentration and minors in Health and Coaching. He is from Duluth Minnesota. He played his first three High School seasons in the old Wade Stadium with Denfeld before the renovations in 2014. Ryan Currently plays baseball with the Yellow Jackets and will be joining us for the first time this summer. He hopes to learn the inner workings of a baseball club and seek a career regarding athletics.

Justin Smith is from Duluth, MN and is attending Eastern Illinois University. He is in his third year at Eastern Illinois planning to graduate in summer of 2018, majoring in Sports Management and minoring in Business Administration. Justin went to Duluth East High School then went on to play baseball at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to Eastern Illinois. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing baseball and hockey, and the outdoors. Justin is excited to join the Huskies once again this summer after playing for the Huskies in 2016.
2018 Summer Broadcasting Team
Ari is a rising senior at Northwestern University, studying in the Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences program with a second major in Journalism. Ari hails from sunny Boca Raton, Florida, and is excited to get away from the extreme summer heat. He loves broadcasting Northwestern sports of all kinds for WNUR. After the latest Marlins fire sale, Ari is trying to find an MLB new team to root for. Ari is incredibly excited to broadcast for the Huskies this summer!
Tanner Hoops began broadcasting sports on the radio in 2011 after spending two years as a public address announcer for local sporting events. The Storm Lake, Iowa, native currently attends Buena Vista University and majors in digital media.
Tanner was diagnosed with Marfan’s Syndrome at age three, putting an end to his athletic career before it got started. It was because of that diagnosis that Tanner developed a passion for sportscasting. Tanner is currently in his fourth year as sports director at 97.5 KBVU in Iowa, where his responsibilities include providing play-by-play broadcasts for local college and high school athletics as well as hosting a weekly talk show. Tanner is also the lead play-by-play broadcaster for BVTV and a sportswriter the Tack Online. Tanner has spent the last three years interning as a broadcaster for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League.
Tanner is a fan of the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Celtics, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Giants and the University of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Tanner is very excited to join the Huskies organization and the Northwoods League.
Zach Penrice is a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Zach grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, which is the host of the NCAA Men’s College World Series. Naturally, baseball has been in his blood for as long as he can remember. Two summers ago, Zach worked at the College World Series for ESPN and gained a lot of experience in the world of production. Last summer, he worked for the Forest City Owls baseball team in North Carolina. The team is in the Coastal Plain League, where Zach was able to broadcast 55 games all season long. At the University of Nebraska, Zach is a journalism and broadcasting major and has been fortunate to be a part of over 80 live broadcasts across a wide-range of sports while attending the university. Zach’s main goal this summer is to become a better broadcaster and fully invest in the Duluth community and its people. He cannot wait to get up to Duluth and get to work!
Sam is a going into his junior year at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN. Sam is originally from Sauk Centre, a small town in central Minnesota. Sam has loved sports all his life, so the obvious choice would be to go to school for broadcasting. At SMSU, Sam is a broadcast and digital media major. He has already had the opportunity to be a part of over 80 productions over a wide variety of sports. He is one of the head directors for the SMSU football productions and commentates both Men’s and Women’s SMSU basketball games. Sam’s goal over the summer is to add to his experiences in the broadcasting field. He is also excited to make new friends and can’t wait to get to work!
Mitchell Speltz is a senior at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he is set to graduate with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Marketing. Originally from Independence, Wisconsin he has had a strong passion for sports since he was young and is a big fan of most Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Milwaukee Brewers. Before coming to Duluth, Mitchell worked at ESPN La Crosse where he first began doing play-by-play for high school football and basketball games on Friday nights. In addition to his play-by-play duties, he served as a reporter for the Wisconsin Badgers at the station, where he covered the Badgers football and men’s basketball team. Mitchell started off at ESPN La Crosse as the Executive Producer of the station’s afternoon talk show The Sports Lead. He also worked at WKBT-TV News 8 in La Crosse as a sports photojournalist where he covered many local high school and college athletic teams in Western Wisconsin and Southeastern Minnesota. Mitchell is excited to be a part of the Northwoods League and the Duluth Huskies Broadcast Team this summer!
2018 Summer Video Broadcasting Team
Rachel Hills is starting her 2nd summer here with the Duluth Huskies and is very excited for the new job title of Co Broadcast Director. She attended 2 years at the University of Wisconsin Superior where she received her AA and she also attended a year at Lake Superior College in the Media Production and Studies Program. Through this program lead her to work with the Huskies and also taught her a lot of the Media industry. With this new season of coaches and players, Rachel can’t wait to begin.
Shania was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota and this will be her third season with the Huskies organization.
She got her start with the Huskies as lead intern for the HD video team in 2016 operating cameras and worked her way up to directing by the end of the season. In the 2017 season, Shania returned as a director.
Krause is a 2018 graduate from Lake Superior College with a Media Studies and Production degree, and an Associate of Arts degree.
She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and anything artistic, including singing, dancing, drawing, photography/ videography, and metal jewelry/ art.
Shania is looking forward to the baseball season and helping the incoming interns polish their skills within the media field.
Broadcasting and Gameday Operations Intern
Scott is from Esko, MN and is a recent graduate of Lake Superior College. There he studied and received an Associates degree in Computer Aided Design Engineering. This will be his first season as an intern with the Huskies but has worked for the organization on and off since he was young. This season he will be focusing on Broadcasting and Gameday Operations. In the offseason, he is working at Genesis Attachments, in Superior, WI, as a Mechanical Drafter. In his free time, he enjoys many outdoor recreational activities, mentors the Esko Subzero Robotics Team, is an avid hockey, football, and baseball fan, and loves spending time with friends and family. He is excited to spend another summer with the organization.
