\n\t(Duluth, MN)<\/strong>— The Duluth Huskies have announced two newly signed players from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJoining the Huskies for the 2014 campaign are Alex Michaels and Danny Zandona.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMichaels is a 6’3”, 215 lb outfielder from Stockton, CA, and is currently working through his redshirt sophomore season.  As a freshman, Michaels played in 33 games, starting 17 of them, and hit at a .400 clip with three doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs, and 16 RBI.  He had seven multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games.  Following the 2012 season, he played his summer ball for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast Collegiate League, compiling a .221 average with five doubles and 13 RBI.  As a sophomore, he played in the first six games of the season, hitting .308 with a pair of doubles and one RBI before suffering a season-ending leg injury.  He was granted a medical redshirt for the remainder of the season.  Due to continued rehabilitation, he did not participate in any summer ball in ’13.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tZandona is a Junior and hails from Santa Barbara, CA. The 6’1” 190 lb pitcher appeared in seven games as a freshman in 2012, (one start) finishing 0-1 with an ERA of 4.85.  He played his summer ball with the Bend Elks of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League, pitching in three games with a 6.75 ERA and no record.  In his sophomore season, Zandona tossed 16 innings and had a 2-1 record with a 4.50 ERA and 13 strikeouts.  Following his sophomore campaign, he played for the Walla Walla Sweets in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League, throwing 22 1\/3 innings for a 2-3 record and 5.23 ERA in 11 appearances.    \n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including MLB All-Stars Max Scherzer (DET), Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYY), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
