\n\t(Duluth, MN) — Connor Joe, a member of the Duluth Huskies in 2012, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 39th overall pick in last night's Major League Baseball draft.  Joe, the right-handed-hitting outfielder\/catcher\/first base prospect from University of San Diego, hit .367 with 21 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 51 RBI during his junior year with the Aztecs this past season.  \n<\/p>\n

\n\tJoe hit .295 with seven doubles, three home runs, and 24 RBI as the primary first baseman for the Huskies in 2012. He was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2014 and nearly won the Golden Spikes Award, an honor given to the top amateur player in the country after each season.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
