\n\tThe Duluth Huskies (15-16) beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks (13-17) in the first game of the two game series.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tIt was another long game for the Duluth Huskies in Wausau as they battled the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The game started at 6:35pm and didn’t end until just after 12am as 2 delays prolonged the game. The first delay, totaling 30 minutes, came in the top of the 1st<\/sup> inning due to lightening; and the second delay, totaling 2 hours, came in the top of the 2nd<\/sup> due to rain\/lightening. Despite the delays the Huskies came out firing.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Huskies scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd<\/sup> inning thanks to a Carter Hanford solo homerun, a Daniel Amaral sac fly that scored David Kyriacou, and a 3RBI double by Justin Ambrosino that plated Liam Sabino, Chase Barbary, and Brendan McClary. The score remained 5-0 until the top of the 6th<\/sup> when Austin Bernard scored on a wild pitch. The Huskies added to their lead in the top of the 8th<\/sup> when Amaral scored on an Ambrosino sac fly. The Woodchucks were able to get on the board in their half of the 8th<\/sup> inning when Steele Walker came in to score. The game was far from over however as the Huskies put 4 runs on the board in the top of the 9th<\/sup> inning when Sabino hit a grand slam as the clock struck midnight!\n<\/p>\n \n\tThere were 13 total walks issued to the Huskies by the Woodchuck, eight of the nine starting position players for the Huskies reached base by way of walk or hit, and Carter Hanford and Liam Sabino each hit their first homeruns of the season.\n<\/p>\n \n\tRyan Tapani got the start for the Huskies and picked up the win tossing 5.0 innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits walking 0 and striking out 7. He was replaced by Ian Schwickert who made his first appearance as a Duluth Huskie. He went 3.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 3 hits striking out 1. Wade Regas pitched the 9th<\/sup> inning for the Huskies and allowed 0 runs on 0 hits striking out 1.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe star players for the Huskies were Liam Sabino who went 1-3 with a grand slam, 4RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 3 walks; Justin Ambrosino who went 2-5 with a double, a sac fly, and 4RBIs; and Ryan Tapani for his strong pitching performance. \n<\/p>\n \n\tThe Huskies are back at it Friday night in Wausau as they battle the Woodchucks in the second game of the series. They then go to Rochester to face-off against the Honkers for two games before returning home. They return to Wade Stadium on Monday, July 4 to battle the Willmar Stingers.
