{"id":4185,"date":"2018-04-23T18:12:36","date_gmt":"2018-04-23T18:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/?p=4185"},"modified":"2018-04-23T18:12:36","modified_gmt":"2018-04-23T18:12:36","slug":"the-duluth-huskies-make-two-more-acquisitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/2018\/04\/23\/the-duluth-huskies-make-two-more-acquisitions\/","title":{"rendered":"The Duluth Huskies Make Two More Acquisitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Shenefield and Escobedo Added for 2018 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Duluth Minn.\u2014The Duluth Huskies Baseball Club has announced the addition of two more players for their 2018 season.\u00a0 The new Huskies are Hayden Shenefield (RHP) from Woodland Hills, California, and Julian Escobedo (LHP, 1B, OF) from San Diego, California.<\/p>\n<p>Hayden Shenefield is in his senior year at Cal State Northridge (Northridge, CA) after transferring from Grossmont College.\u00a0 Last season he tossed in 24 appearances, while maintaining only a 1.56 ERA.\u00a0 In those appearances he posted an 8-0 record on the bump, sending 76 batters down on strikes.\u00a0 To top it off, he earned MVP during the California Community College State Championship.\u00a0 In his current season with the Matadors, he has thrown 19.1 innings in 17 appearances.\u00a0 He holds a 1-2 record, with an ERA of 5.59 and 20 strikeouts so far.<\/p>\n<p>Julian Escobedo is a sophomore at San Diego State (San Diego, CA).\u00a0 As a freshman in 2017, he hit .226 with six RBIs in 43 games.\u00a0 He started in 25 games, and was perfect on stolen base attempts, going nine for nine.\u00a0 In his sophomore season, he is hitting .336 in 36 starts.\u00a0 He has scored 32 times and driven in 18 RBIs.\u00a0 He has also shown patience at the plate, walking 25 times. His defense is also something to mention, as he has a 1.000 fielding percentage from the outfield.<\/p>\n<p>These players show to be talented additions to the Huskie roster.\u00a0 Shenefield looks to have plenty of experience in the bullpen, and Escobedo\u2019s defense and stature at the plate look to give the Huskie fans something to look forward to in this 2018 summer season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>###<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Entering its 25th anniversary season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 20 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.\u00a0<\/em><em>A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff,\u00a0<\/em><em>more than 190\u00a0<\/em><em>former Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball,\u00a0<\/em><em>including three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist (CHC) and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (BOS), Jordan Zimmermann (DET) and Curtis Granderson (TOR).\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>All league games are viewable live via the<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/portal.stretchinternet.com\/nwl\/\"><em>Northwoods League portal<\/em><\/a><em>.
