{"id":4514,"date":"2018-07-05T00:26:24","date_gmt":"2018-07-05T00:26:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/?p=4514"},"modified":"2018-07-05T00:26:24","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T00:26:24","slug":"troy-newells-excellent-performance-results-in-a-huskies-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/2018\/07\/05\/troy-newells-excellent-performance-results-in-a-huskies-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Troy Newell\u2019s Excellent Performance Results in a Huskies Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A Struggling Husky Offense get Help from their Starting Pitcher<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Duluth, Minn\u2014The Duluth Huskies came into this afternoon\u2019s game after being swept by the Rochester Honkers in their previous two game series.\u00a0 After two struggling starting performances against Rochester, the Huskies turned to Troy Newell (Western Kentucky) for a solid start.\u00a0 The left-handed pitcher did just that.<\/p>\n<p>Newell pitched a great game for the Huskies, with his only mistake coming in 3<sup>rd<\/sup> inning.\u00a0 With a 0-2 to Sean Ross (San Diego State) at the plate, Ross hit a deep fly ball to left field that went over the fence for a solo homerun.<\/p>\n<p>Newell cruised through the rest of his outing going 7.1 innings allowing a single run on five hits while striking out six.<\/p>\n<p>The first Husky run came in the 5<sup>th<\/sup> inning on an RBI single from Augie Isaacson (Friends University) that scored General McArthur (Missouri Baptist) from second base. The Huskies added another run in the 6<sup>th<\/sup> off of an RBI single from Christian Jones (Washington) that scored Sam Baier (Augustana) from third base.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Holdagrafer (Cal Poly Pamona) came in relief of Newell in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> inning with Ben Carew (Kent State University) standing at first base.\u00a0 After giving up a single to Connor Aube (Texas at Arlington), Holdagrafer got an inning ending double play from Ryland Kerr (Eastern Kentucky University).\u00a0 Holdagrafer sent the Rox down in order in the 9<sup>th<\/sup> to secure the win for the Huskies.<\/p>\n<p>The Huskies got their first win of the second half defeating the Rox 2-1.\u00a0 The Huskies will look to sweep the series against the Rox in St. Cloud tomorrow, game starts at 7:05.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>###<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. In iIts 25th anniversary season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 20 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
