Madison first baseman and Western Carolina Sophomore goes 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI<\/em><\/p>\n By: Thomas Breach, Waterloo Bucks<\/p>\n Rochester, Minn — Justice Bigbie (Western Carolina) of the Madison Mallards went 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI while leading the Great Lakes Division to a 5-2 victory over the Great Plains Division in the 2019 Northwoods League All-Star Game. Bigbie earned \u201cStar of Stars\u201d honors for his monster performance.<\/p>\n The 25th edition of the Northwoods League All-Star Game, held at Cost Cutters Field at Riverfront Stadium, was preceded by the Home Run Derby. A thrilling Derby ended in a tie between the two divisions with 11 apiece. Thunder Bay\u2019s Jake Engel (Dixie State) won the individual crown with five home runs.<\/p>\n Wisconsin Rapids\u2019 Richie Schiekofer (Rutgers) drew a one-out walk in the first inning, prompting Bigbie\u2019s first home run of the evening to deep left. Leading 2-0, the Great Lakes received a scoreless inning from starter and Traverse City representative Andrew Hoffman (Oakland).<\/p>\n The Rafter\u2019s Neil Abbatiello (Wagner) earned the win by covering the next two-thirds of an inning. The Great Plains struck back with the first of two RBI singles off the bat of Bismarck\u2019s Wyatt Ulrich (St. John\u2019s MN) in the second, scoring Duluth\u2019s Nic Kent (Virginia) after the latter\u2019s double.<\/p>\n Bigbie hammered a two-out solo home run in the third, stretching the lead back to two. Ulrich responded with another run-scoring single in the fourth to score Kent, following a third in which he wowed the crowd with an inning-ending diving catch in center.<\/p>\n Great Lakes pitching dominated the rest of the way, totaling 11 strikeouts throughout the evening and working at a staff whiff rate of 14.7%. A.J. Archambo (Oral Roberts) of Madison earned the save by recording the final two outs, striking out one. The Lakeshore Chinooks\u2019 Will Klein (Eastern Illinois) opened eyes by hitting 100 miles per hour on his fastball while striking out both batters he faced.<\/p>\n Madison\u2019s Ben Anderson (Georgia) and Fond du Lac\u2019s Zeb Adreon (Iowa) led off the eighth with walks, later scoring on RBI singles struck by Mallards teammates Drew Benefield (Louisville) and Drew Williams (San Jose State).<\/p>\n Waterloo\u2019s Alonzo Rubalcaba (Santa Barbara City CC) went 1-1 with a walk in front of his home crowd.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ###<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
