Peterson goes from former SACH intern to assistant coach<\/em><\/p>\n

Duluth, Minn.- The Duluth Huskies are bringing a familiar face into the fold for 2021, but this time as an assistant coach. Coach Will Peterson, now a pitching coach at the College of Saint Scholastica, will join the Huskies organization for the second time in three years. In 2019, Peterson was one of the Scouting Analytics Coaching Hybrid (SACH) interns for the team and was dubbed as one of Head Coach Marcus Pointer\u2019s right-hand guys. When asked how he navigated 2020 with little to no baseball, Will said it was tough, but he said he made the most of it. \u201cBeing away from the guys after working hard for months wasn\u2019t fun,\u201d he said. \u201cI spent time learning and growing as a coach, taking the down time we normally don\u2019t see in our sport and put it to good use.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born and raised in Two Harbors, Peterson has attended Huskies games since the team was established in 2003. \u201cTo know I will be coaching a team that helped grow my interest in the sport is a surreal experience,\u201d he remarked. Will attended Saint Scholastica with a focus on Mathematics and Data Analytics, so he considers the numbers aspect of the game of baseball to be a key strength of his. \u201c(Head Coach) Marcus has made it a focus to use analytics more and more every year he\u2019s been here,\u201d Peterson stated, noting how that aspect of coaching and scouting improves the roster and team on the field.<\/p>\n

Coach Peterson is most looking forward to being in the dugout with the players and coaches while competing for a Championship, stating how close the club was to achieving that feat in 2018 and 2019. \u201cI know how much a championship would mean to the ownership and the Huskies fan base. Ideally we can bring the trophy back to Duluth.\u201d<\/p>\n
