Duluth announces four more pitchers, including teammates at Delta College. <\/em><\/p>\n

Duluth, Minn.- It is always good to have fresh arms in baseball, especially when playing as rigorous a schedule as the Northwoods League presents. The Duluth Huskies today announce the signings of four more pitchers to the 2021 roster in efforts to keep the arms fresh all season long. Lefty-pitcher Brody Maynard of Daytona State joins a trio of right-handers in the list of new additions; Michael Altman of Oklahoma Baptist, and Zach Statzer and Connor Semone, teammates at San Joaquin Delta.<\/p>\n

A 2019 graduate of Pone Vedra High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Brody Maynard joins the Huskies with an abbreviated 2020 season and ongoing spring 2021 season under his belt at Daytona State College. To date, the lefty has made 30 appearances for the Falcons, with 62 innings pitched. When asked what was appealing about playing for the Huskies, Brody had high praises for the program and the city of Duluth. \u201cI signed with the Huskies because it\u2019s a great opportunity with Coach Pointer to play some high-level baseball and work on improving my game,\u201d Maynard said. \u201cNot to mention Duluth is a really cool play to play baseball.\u201d When he is not playing baseball, the Florida native plays semi-professional Spikeball.<\/p>\n

Michael Altman joins the Huskies after being recruited by Huskies\u2019 Head Coach Marcus Pointer for the lost 2020 season. \u201cMarcus (Pointer) was my coach in junior college and wanted me to play with him last year,\u201d Altman shared. \u201cI signed this year, and I\u2019m really excited for the summer.\u201d The San Francisco native is currently playing spring ball for Skyline College, where he has pitched 18 innings in nine appearances, per skylinecollegeathletics.com. In that span, Michael has struck out 31 batters while holding an ERA of 1.50. He will attend Oklahoma Baptist in the fall, where he will bring his pitching ability to a Bison team that went 16-6 in 2020 prior to the season being canceled. When he is not playing ball, Altman enjoys spending time in nature.<\/p>\n

Connor Semone and Zach Statzer are both 2020 high school grads from Modesto, California, though they did not go to the same high school; the former graduated from Central Catholic and the latter from Fred C. Beyer High. Although the two were not teammates in high school, they are<\/em> teammates at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA. Despite covid derailing his initial plans, Semone was able to play with a travel team throughout last summer to get some throwing reps in. Outside of baseball, Connor enjoys riding bike and generally just being outdoors.<\/p>\n

Statzer got his practice reps in as well, albeit they looked a bit different than he thought. \u201cThroughout 2020 I was able to work on skill and strength,\u201d he said. \u201cI was lifting over five days a week and throwing bull pens on the side\u2026There was no team experience, but I did get to personally improve.\u201d Zach is eager to join a Huskies team that he calls extremely talented and competitive. \u201cI wanted to go to a league in which my skills would be challenged. Duluth seems like an amazing place to further my skills and have an amazing summer.\u201d A miscellaneous fact about Statzer is that he considers himself a bit of a coffee enthusiast. You\u2019re in luck, Zach: Duluth has some excellent <\/em>coffee!<\/p>\n
