Duluth, Minn.- We are officially less than three weeks away from the home opener, Huskies fans! As we approach that highly anticipated date, the roster continues to come into focus. This week we highlight two lefty pitcher additions in Caden Griffin and Cameron Pool, as well as do-it-all infielder Michael Brooks.<\/p>\n

A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Caden Griffin had planned on playing Northwoods League baseball a little closer to home. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the Thunder Bay Boarder Cats had to cancel their season, however, which opened the door for the Huskies to scoop up the talented lefty. A freshman for the University of Missouri Tigers, Griffin was ranked as the number three overall left-handed pitching prospect in Ontario, according to the tigers\u2019 official roster. Playing for Team Canada in 2018, Caden had the privilege of playing against MLB spring training teams such as the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. Unlike many Canadian kids who choose to play hockey, Griffin\u2019s sport has always been baseball and baseball alone; so much so that he says it is all he really does. \u201cI really have no hobbies besides baseball,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Cameron Pool has started 13 games for Murray State so far this season. During that span, the Freshman from Frisco, Texas holds an ERA of 5.20 with 55 strikeouts in just over 62 innings pitched, according to njcaa.org. Regarding Covid-19 interfering with baseball in 2020, Pool said it all worked out just fine for him. \u201cDuring the 2020 season I was out due to a knee injury,\u201d he said. \u201cI was able to go home early from college and begin my rehab faster. For me personally, the shortened season was actually a blessing.\u201d The Huskies were the first summer league team to reach out to Cameron, and his pitching coach at Murray State, Justin Eclevea, helped seal the deal to get the Frisco native to Duluth. \u201cI am mostly looking forward to the experience of playing other players at a high level, while being so far away from home.\u201d Despite being an excellent left-handed pitcher, Pool says he does most other activities with his right hand.<\/p>\n

Michael Brooks is a freshman do-it-all infielder for the University of Central Florida Knights, transferring there after previously committing to the Arkansas Razorbacks. One of the very best shortstop recruits in the country coming out of high school, Brooks is excited to get meaningful reps with the Huskies. \u201cI\u2019m just looking forward to meeting some new guys and continuing to get better while getting at-bats,\u201d he said.\u00a0 A Wellington, Florida native, Michael enjoys fishing and golfing with his friends when he is away from the ball diamond. That is not often, as he has lived and breathed baseball since he was 4-years-old. \u201cMy dad would tell stories of me holding a wiffleball bat in the driveway, begging him to throw me pitches,\u201d he said. A miscellaneous fact about Brooks? He can whip up a mean salsa!<\/p>\n
