Highly touted Nebraska native will hold down the catcher\u2019s box in 2022<\/em><\/p>\n

Duluth, Minn.- The Duluth Huskies have a new catcher in the fold for 2022, as Jaxson Simmerman will be donning the white and blue. Simmerman, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, joined the Mavs by way of Seward High School, where he was the second-ranked catcher in the state of Nebraska, according to Omaha\u2019s official website. A district champion, Jaxson set school records with his excellent on-base percentage of .560 and 19 walks.<\/p>\n

The Seward native doesn\u2019t come to the Huskies without an inside scoop on the team; his college roommate is none other than Mike Boeve, the Huskies\u2019 2021 team MVP. \u201cI have heard nothing but great things about the Huskies,\u201d Simmerman said. \u201cMy roommate, Mike Boeve, played there last summer and absolutely loved it and had tremendous success, so I am looking forward to experiencing it myself.\u201d Jaxson also noted his eagerness to play in the Northwoods League, where he gets the opportunity to play with and against many great players.<\/p>\n

When asked what he is most looking forward to this upcoming season, Simmerman outlined his goals for both spring and summer. \u201cIn the spring, I am looking forward to chasing an NCAA championship with my teammates,\u201d he said. \u201cIn the summer, I am looking forward to playing with guys from all over the country, having fun playing baseball every single day.\u201d An Economics and Business Analytics major, Jaxson dreams of becoming a Baseball Operations Analyst or an Amateur\/Professional Scout for an MLB organization someday.<\/p>\n

For the summer, he\u2019ll call Wade Stadium home. Please join us in welcoming Jaxson to the Huskies!<\/p>\n

The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 250 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and MLB Gold Glove finalist and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TOR).
