Duluth, Minn. \u2013 The Duluth Huskies battled through the final play.<\/span><\/p>\n

But in the 10th inning, Duluth could only watch the first game of its doubleheader slip away.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the bases loaded, a walk-off fielder\u2019s choice led to an 8-7 Huskies defeat versus the Eau Claire Express at Carson Park on Thursday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Huskies (10-6) led 6-2 by the end of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly, two RBI base hits and a groundout.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the Express (12-5) weren\u2019t near finished.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eau Claire second baseman Peter Brookshaw (North Dakota State) hit a two-run home run to right field to begin a five-run seventh frame. Two RBI hits followed, leading to Huskies left-handed reliever Caden Edwards (North Dakota State) departing for right-handed reliever Nolan Lebamoff (Valparaiso).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Eau Claire then went scoreless through the ninth, Duluth designated hitter Eduardo Rosario hit a game-tying RBI single to force extra innings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Express reliever Matt Helwig (1-0) garnered the win after keeping the Huskies scoreless, and right-handed reliever Jake Christianson (0-1) was charged with the loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duluth and Eau Claire meet again Thursday for the second game of their scheduled doubleheader. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n
