{"id":940,"date":"2013-12-10T19:49:27","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T19:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/?p=940"},"modified":"2022-11-09T10:29:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T16:29:07","slug":"940","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/duluth-huskies\/2013\/12\/10\/940\/","title":{"rendered":"Huskies Return Five for 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span><strong>(Duluth, MN)<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>The Duluth Huskies Baseball Club today announced the return of five players from the 2013 season.<\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>Returning for their second season in the prestigious Northwoods League are Jered Meek from the Univ. of New Mexico, Josh Bornstein from the Univ. of California Irvine, AJ MCElderry from Indiana State Univ, Patrick McGrath from Belmont Univ. (Nashville, TN), and Trewin Parker from North Dakota State Univ.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>Jered Meek is a versatile infielder returning after an outstanding summer in 2013. Meek was a mainstay in the lineup all summer. He was a solid defensive infielder who will be looked upon to continue his solid play as well as providing leadership in the clubhouse.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>AJ McElderry a left handed pitcher from Indiana State is returning for his 3<sup>rd<\/sup> yr with the Huskies after another successful summer as a relief pitcher. McElderry was a late inning reliever for the Huskies all summer. AJ will be looked to be a late innings setup guy for the 2014 season.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>Josh Bornstein returns to the Huskies from UC Irvine. Josh was a valuable middle to late inning reliever in 2013. We will look for him to be a mainstay in our bullpen for the upcoming season. &nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>Parker Trewin is a left handed pitcher from North Dakota State who had a great year in the starting role for us in 2013. He is a pitcher that can both start and come in relief if needed. We will look for him to help solidify the rotation in 2014.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>Patrick McGrath another left handed pitcher from Belmont, was a starter in 2013 and had a successful summer. We will look for him to be a starting role this upcoming summer. He is a valuable piece to our pitching staff.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"font-size:14px\"><span>The Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including MLB All-Stars Max Scherzer (DET), Chris Sale (CWS), Mark Melancon (PIT), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYY), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
