Bullfrogs Sink Rafters with Late Home Run


Wis-The Green Bay Bullfrogs defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-2 at Witter Field tonight in Wisconsin Rapids for the first time. The Bullfrogs were 0-6 against the Rafters previously. Ben Hart hit a two-run shot in the ninth inning for the Bullfrogs and Darren Kelly came in to get the save. The Bullfrogs winning pitcher on the night is Nick Parr, who did not allow a hit in two innings of relief, as he relieved Matt Goytia who had a good start. Cameron Busby gets the loss tonight for the Rafters, as he allows the home run.

The Bullfrogs pitching staff was stout tonight, they would allow just three hits during the game. The Bullfrogs would go down 1-0 in the second inning, the Rafters would walk a run in taking the lead and leaving the bases loaded with one out. The next batter would hit a fly out to centerfield where Alonzo Jones would make a sliding play for the second out and throw down the runner at home, who tagged up to score, to end the frame. The Rafters would bring another run across in the fifth inning extending their lead to 2-0. The Bullfrogs would tie up the game in the sixth inning when Riley Smith would hit a two-RBI single with two outs on the board tying the game 2-2. Neither The Bullfrogs or Rafters would score another run going into the ninth. In the ninth inning, Dan Leckie would work a walk with two outs on the board to put the go-ahead run at first. Ben Hart would then dig in and launch the first pitch his saw over the left field wall, giving the Bullfrogs the 4-2 lead. Darren Kelly would come in to close out the game, getting the save.

The Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Player of the Game is Ben Hart. Ben Hart gets the award for the second straight night as he has hit homers in his last two games now. Tonight’s home run was the go-ahead winner. Hart’s stat line on the night: 3-4, 3 H, 2 RBI, 1 R, and 1 HR.

The Bullfrogs improve to 2-7 on the second half of the year and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters drop to 5-3 in the second half. The Frogs will host the Rafters tomorrow in Green Bay for game two of the series. Will Gilbert will be the starting pitcher tomorrow for the Frogs.
