By: Nolan Knight

The Green Bay Bullfrogs are back in Joanne’s Stadium to host a doubleheader against the Kalamazoo Growlers. The Bullfrogs currently have a 3-2 lead over the Growlers for the season series. The Growlers are the lone team the Bullfrogs have a series advantage over this season. The Bullfrogs come into the game 11-20 on the second half of the season and the Kalamazoo Growlers currently sit at 14-18 on the second half of the year. The Frogs are one of the hottest team in the South Division currently as they have won eight of their last 11 games. The Bullfrogs are coming off of a 6-1 victory against the Madison Mallards. The Growlers are coming off of a 9-12 loss against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders.

The first game of this doubleheader is a continuation of a game that was postponed due to rain back on June 12th. The game was delayed with runners at first and third, no outs, in the top of the second inning with the score tied up 0-0. That is where the game will start off, so it will be an interesting start to the game! The first game will be played in its entirety of a nine inning game. The second game of the doubleheader will be a seven inning game.

The Bullfrogs won last night 6-1, the Frogs going into that game were looking for revenge against the Mallards as the Bullfrogs lost the last time the two teams faced off 14-4. The Frogs would take a 1-0 lead in the first inning off the bat of Troy Johnston who smacked a RBI single giving the Bullfrogs the lead. The Frogs would score five runs in the third inning running away with the game 6-0. The Mallards would score a run off of a balk and the Bullfrogs would send in Ethan Evanko to close the game.

Matt Goytia the starting pitcher got the win for the Bullfrogs. Goytia was named the Northwoods League Pitcher of the night for his great outing. Goytia was also named the Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine Player of the Game for his start. Goytia’s stat line last night: 7.2 IP, 2 K, 1 R, 6 BB, 5 H and the WIN.

Tonight the Bullfrogs will start Will Gilbert for the first game and Michael Bohlke for the second. Gilbert on the season for the Bullfrogs has started seven games, with a 2-5 record, and has posted a 7.40 ERA. Michael Bohlke on the season for the Bullfrogs has a 1-2 record, thrown 19 strikeouts, and has a 4.41 ERA.
