A Pair of Bison Stampede to Green Bay
Green Bay, Wis – The Green Bay Bullfrogs have added more NCAA Division II talent to their 2018 roster with the announcement of two signees from Dixie State University, in junior pitcher Tyler Rosas and sophomore outfielder Jake Engel.
Tyler Rosas, a 6-0 right-hander from Twin Falls, Idaho, enters his first collegiate campaign at the NCAA Division II level after a two-year tenure at the College of Southern Idaho in his hometown. As a sophomore in 2017, Rosas posted a 4-3 record in 19 appearances out of the bullpen. He tallied a 4.03 ERA in 38 innings of work with 33 strikeouts and a pair of saves, while holding opposing batters to a .203 average. In his 2016 freshman campaign, Rosas tossed 51 total innings through 19 appearances with five starts on the bump. He compiled 45 strikeouts with two saves for the Golden Eagles.
Jake Engel, a 6-2 outfield prospect out of Tuscon, Arizona, made six starts in 12 games played as a DSU freshman in the 2017 season. Engel contributed five total hits with eight RBIs at the plate, while tallying 10 put-outs on defense. He arrived on the Dixie State campus following a stand-out career at Ironwood Ridge High School in Oro Valley, Az. Engel earned four varsity letters in baseball, batting .411 as a senior with eight doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 29 RBIs. He also posted a whopping .831 slugging percentage with 23 runs scored. He earned first team All-Northwest, Section XI and Southern Arizona accolades at the conclusion of his stellar senior campaign.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Bullfrogs for the 2018 summer,” says Engel. “I look forward to being apart of the Green Bay atmosphere. I would say I am most excited about seeing how well I compete with players from other programs and levels of competition. Overall, it should be a good learning experience for me and I hope to grow as a person and player.”
Head coach Chris Pfatenhauer looks to see Engel improve upon his great potential this summer. “As a freshman, he got off to a slow start, but started to play well and then suffered a quad injury,” said Pfatenhauer. “He is fully recovered and playing better than ever. He is an above average runner with good pop. We have very high hopes for Jake and are extremely excited for him to play in the Northwoods this summer.”
