Bullfrogs Add Northeast Talent
Green Bay, Wis – Two natives from the Northeast region of the United States will venture west to Titletown this summer as the Green Bay Bullfrogs have officially announced the signings of Rider University infielder Riley Mihalik and Chipola College freshman catcher Austin Bates.
Mihalik, a 6-2 first baseman from Churchville, Pa., was an impact player at the dish for the Rider Broncs as a sophomore 2017. Mihalik started in 50 games mainly at designated hitter, tallying a .279 average with 50 hits, 28 RBIs and led the team with 34 runs scored. He finished third on the Broncs with 10 doubles and five home runs last spring. Mihalik is off to a strong start in his junior campaign this season, hitting .265 with twenty-six hits and eleven RBIs through twenty-six games. “He is one the hitters opponents fear in our program,” said Rider head baseball coach Barry Davis. “He has the ability to turn a game with one swing.”
“Joining the Bullfrogs is an exciting opportunity,” said Mihalik. “It is an honor to play among the best players in the sport. I look forward to a successful season with an organization that I know expects nothing less than excellence.”
Bates, a 5-11 catching prospect from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., enters his first season at the collegiate level after a stand-out career at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. In his senior campaign, Bates posted a .429 average with 30 hits and 17 RBIs along with a .523 on-base percentage with 21 runs scored. He finished his strong high school tenure with a .373 career average with 44 hits, 24 runs driven in and a .458 on-base percentage. Bates was rated the top ranked catcher and seventh overall high school prospect in the state of New York by Perfect Game.
