Bullfrogs visit Woodchucks for two-game series


Green Bay, WI — The Green Bay Bullfrogs (13-29, 1-5) commence a three-game road trip Tuesday afternoon, venturing to Athletic Park to face the host Wisconsin Woodchucks (16-25, 4-2) for the opener of a two-game series. The Bullfrogs make their first trip to Wausau this summer. First pitch is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start. Green Bay has lost nine of its 10 games after being swept at home by the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders.

Who’s Hot

Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) holds the longest active hit streak for the Bullfrogs at 11 games, hitting for a .395 average in 13 games played. Damla is 17-for-41 (.415) in the stretch with six multi-hit games in the span. He has 17 total hits with two doubles, two triples and seven RBIs.

Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) continues to see the ball well in his first nine games with Green Bay, riding an eight-game hit streak entering tonight’s contest. Since going 0-for-3 in his debut on July 1, Acosta is 11-for-34 at the dish. The USC Trojan hits .306 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs and six RBIs.

Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) has a six-game hit streak, going 6-for-16 (.375) in the stretch with two RBIs. Blake Nelson (Junior, Michigan) has one hit in his last three games with five RBIs, including a season-high three runs driven in last night versus Fond du Lac.

The Bullfrogs hold a .234 team batting average, which is ranked 16th in the Northwoods League and a .256 clip in their last five games.

Opponent Outlook

The Wisconsin Woodchucks have won seven of their last 10 games coming off a two-game home sweep over the Rockford Rivets. The Woodchucks are 15th in the league with a .235 team average and 11th in team ERA at 4.12.

Wisconsin swept the first two-game series over Green Bay July 2-3 at Joannes Stadium. The Woodchucks were victorious in the first meeting by a score of 7-2 and completed the sweep with an 8-5 win the next night.

Jaren Shelby leads the Woodchucks with a .333 average, tallying 19 hits, five doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs in his first 15 games played. Shelby has hit .455 (15-for-33) in his last 10 games with four home runs and 11 RBIs. Zach DeLoach leads Wisconsin with 28 hits and 21 RBIs to go along with his .318 average.

Tonight’s Starting Pitcher

Green Bay right-handed pitcher Cody Norman (Sophomore, Univ. of La Verne) is slated to make his first start of the season tonight. Norman made his Bullfrog debut this past Sunday against Fond du Lac in a 7-6 loss. He went two innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits.

Norman posted a solid second season with the University of La Verne Leopards. He went 5-5 in 13 starts with a 3.95 ERA, tallying 58 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings pitched this past spring.
