Growlers have a season-high in hits and runs in the victory<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Kokomo, Ind.<\/em> — The Kalamazoo Growlers earned a 12-2 win over the Kokomo Jackrabbits, in which the Growlers put up a season-high 15 hits\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The bombardment started in the second as <\/span>Austin Knight <\/b>(Tennessee) drilled his first home run and first extra base hit of the season to put KZoo on top 1-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Growlers continued to churn runs in the third, on a near all-ACC inning. A pair of singles from <\/span>Jake Topolski<\/b> (Duke) and <\/span>Gabe Rivera<\/b> (Miami (FL)) led off the frame.<\/span> Jimmy Sullivan<\/b> (UVA) moved both runners into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before <\/span>Zach Gelof<\/b> (UVA) drove in both of his ACC foes on a single.<\/span> Drew Blakely<\/b> (UVA) added a single to score Gelof. The final run of the inning was scored by Knight on a passed ball.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kokomo got on the board in the fifth on an RBI double by Chase Keng (UTSA), scoring Logan Jarvis (Belmont). In the ensuing at bat, Jeff Timko (EMU) had a sacrifice fly to score Brandon Chinea (Nova Southeastern).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alex McCutcheon<\/b> (Huntington) and <\/span>DJ Moore<\/b> (Huntington) would allow only hit after the fifth in relief of the starter <\/span>Ralph Gambino<\/b> (Penn State).<\/span><\/p>\n

The UVA Cavaliers connected for another run in the ninth, as Gelof scored on a sacrifice bunt from Blakely.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ACC boys helped pour on six more runs in the ninth, highlighted by a two run single from Rivera. Gelof added his third RBI of the night on a base hit to score Rivera. <\/span>Brooks Coetzee<\/b> (Notre Dame) joined the parade on a sacrifice fly to score Sullivan. Knight drove in Gelof on his third hit of the night to cap of the 12 run performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

McCutcheon (3-0) earned the win, while Chase Costello (0-1, LSU) registered the loss in his first appearance as a Jackrabbit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Growlers go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. from Kokomo Municipal Stadium.<\/span><\/p>\n
