Adam Wheaton goes 6.1 innings with three strikeouts in the contest\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kalamazoo, Mich., — The Kalamazoo Growlers lost their fourth straight in a 4-1 effort against the Rockford Rivets.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Kalamazoo native Adam Wheaton (1-4, Trine) went 6.1 innings allowing four hits and three runs. The sophomore also walked two Rivets and struck out another three.<\/span><\/p>\n After allowing a four pitch walk to start the ballgame, Wheaton retired the next 11 batters he faced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Growlers led 1-0 after the first, as <\/span>Nick Neville <\/b>(South Carolina) led off with a double. The junior then scored on an RBI fielder\u2019s choice by <\/span>Hunter Thorn<\/b> (Purdue Northwest).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Kalamazoo would only gain two more hits over the final eight innings, one by <\/span>Brooks Coetzee<\/b> (Notre Dame) in the fifth, and the other by <\/span>Jimmy Sullivan<\/b> (UVA) in the seventh.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Three of Rockford\u2019s four runs came in the fourth on a two-out double by Matt Higgins (Bellarmine) and back-to-back home runs by Alex Steinbach (Illinois) and Kirk Liebert (Wabash Valley).<\/span><\/p>\n The Rivets would cap it off with an insurance run in the eighth on Higgins\u2019 second double of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n Eamon Horwedel (Ohio) came in for the eighth and retired all three batters he faced via strikeouts.<\/p>\n
