Kalamazoo, MI- The Battle Creek Bombers swept today\u2019s doubleheader by a score of 7-3 in game one, and 9-2 in game two.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The home-run derby that preceded game one was won by <\/span>Carson Greene (Stanford Unviversity)<\/b> of the Growlers, who defeated Battle Creek\u2019s <\/span>Pablo Arevalo (Southern Illinois University) <\/b>\u00a04-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bombers got things going early in game one, exploding for a 6 run second inning which got started by a <\/span>Peter Hutzal (Marshall University)<\/b> RBI single. Following that up for the Bombers were back to back RBI\u2019s from <\/span>Michael Morissette (Miami University (OH)), <\/b>and <\/span>Tyler Wardwell (Miami University (OH)). <\/b>Errors committed by the Growlers would also allow Wardwell and <\/span>Seth Tucker (Hendrix College) <\/b>to score.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Growlers got 3 runs back in the top of the 4th, when <\/span>Khale Showers (Northwood University) <\/b>tallied an RBI by bringing in Greene. <\/span>Ben Van Cleve (University of Mississippi) <\/b>then scored on a throwing error before <\/span>Garrett Schultz (Xavier University) <\/b>singled and brought home <\/span>Jake Topolski (Duke University)<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bombers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a <\/span>Justin VanDeBrake (Washington State University) <\/b>home-run that brought the score up to 7-3, where it would hold through to the end for a Battle Creek victory.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The home-run derby prior to game two was won convincingly by <\/span>Brett Barrera (Stanford University)<\/b>, who defeated Battle Creek\u2019s <\/span>Jimmy Wressel (Concordia University)<\/b> by a final tally of 8-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Growlers jumped out to an early lead in game one thanks to a Greene RBI single that scored <\/span>Blake Dunn (Western Michigan University). <\/b>The Growlers struck again in the top of the second to increase their lead to 2-0, when Van Cleve came around to score on a throwing error.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bombers tied up the game in a nightmare bottom of the second for the Growlers, with <\/span>Brad Goulet (Akron University) <\/b>scoring on a wild pitch and <\/span>Jax Wardwell (Eastern Kentucky University)<\/b> scoring when VanDeBrake was walked with the bases loaded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Things would only get worse for the Growlers from there, when in the bottom of the 3rd Hutzal delivered an RBI single that scored <\/span>Joe Mason (Mount Olive University)<\/b>.
