Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Growlers deliver in crunch time, using a pair of 3-run rallies in the top of the 5th of both games to power past the Battle Creek Bombers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the home run derby preceding game one, <\/span>Adam Wheaton (Trine University) <\/b>smashed five homers for the Growlers to one homer from Battle Creek\u2019s <\/span>Michael Morissette (Miami University (OH))<\/b>, winning the derby for the Growlers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Growlers struck first in game one, when <\/span>Blake Dunn (Western Michigan University) <\/b>delivered an RBI single to score <\/span>Ben Van Cleve (University of Mississippi).\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bombers answered immediately with a solo home run off the bat of <\/span>Brad Goulet (University of Akron)<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n With their last at-bats in the top of the 5th, the Growlers recaptured the lead with a <\/span>Trent Quartermaine (Ball State University) <\/b>sacrifice fly to bring home<\/span> Garrett Schultz (Xavier University)<\/b>. <\/span>Brett Barrera (Stanford University) <\/b>then delivered with a 2-RBI single to give the Growlers a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Andre Orselli (Ball State University) <\/b>struck out two Bombers en-route to earning the save and giving the Growlers the victory in game one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In game two, it was the Bombers jumping out to the early lead when <\/span>Nate Stolze (Miami University (OH)) <\/b>delivered a 2-RBI single, bringing home <\/span>Joe Mason (University of Mount Olive), <\/b>and <\/span>Josh Swinehart (Western Michigan University)<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Growlers got one run back in the top of the 3rd thanks to a <\/span>Carson Greene (Stanford University) <\/b>sac-fly that brought Dunn home from 3rd.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Bombers however found an immediate answer with a moonshot off the bat of <\/span>Matt Hogan (Vanderbilt University) <\/b>that cleared the fence in right center to put the Bombers up 3-1.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Growlers once again came up huge in the top of the 5th, with Dunn, Greene, and Quartermaine all delivering RBI\u2019s, giving the Growlers the 4-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the 5th.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n This time the Growlers looked to <\/span>Trey Nordmann (Howard College)<\/b> to protect the lead, which he needed 20 pitches to do, earning his second save in the past three days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n With the wins, the Growlers improve to 14-15-1, and tomorrow return to action against the Kalamazoo MacDaddies for a doubleheader with pre-game festivities at 5:15 and 8:00 PM. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Growlers deliver in crunch time, using a pair of 3-run rallies in the top of the […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":15,"featured_media":15301,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[74,31,15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-15300","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-game-recaps","category-permanentslider","category-team-news"],"yoast_head":"\n
