KALAMAZOO, MI – <\/span>The Kalamazoo Growlers, in partnership with St. Luke\u2019s Diaper Bank & Seelye Auto Group, announce the 1st ever \u201cDiaper Drop Night\u201d, the largest diaper drive in minor league sports. The team is taking the concept of the Teddy Bear toss at hockey games where thousands of teddy bears are thrown onto the ice and bringing it to a baseball field with diapers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diaper Drop night will take place on Saturday, July 17th at 6:35pm. Once the Growlers score the first run of the game that night, fans will be able to throw 75,000 packaged diapers onto the field. All diapers from the night will go towards local parents in need.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diaper need is often an overlooked problem and Diaper Drop night is designed to help families in need while creating awareness. St. Luke\u2019s Diaper Bank executive director <\/span>Sarah Koestler outlined the importance of donating diapers. \u201c<\/span>Diaper need is an issue that affects 1 in 3 families with young kids.\u201d The Growlers and St. Luke\u2019s have a goal to raise $10,000 which would purchase 75,000 diapers for the Kalamazoo community. St. Luke\u2019s Diaper Bank donated 285,000 diapers in 2020, and 350,000 in 2021. Koestler discussed how the Diaper Drop night not only helps with the collection of diapers but creating awareness. \u201cCollecting 75,000 diapers and distributing them to our community is the most important, but there is a lot of benefit to teaching people in the community that this is a need because that will only help with advocacy in the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Seelye Auto Group is the presenting sponsor of the night and has already donated <\/span>half<\/b> of the diaper goal for the night with 35,000 diapers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For fans that want to support the night they can do so via two ways;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Purchase a ticket for the night with funds going toward more diapers.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Stop by Seelye Kia in Kalamazoo to drop off diapers before the game<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Businesses looking to support the night can do so by submitting interest in a small donation that includes tickets for the night.<\/span><\/p>\n
