The Growlers gave up 2 runs in the first on a home run that hooked the left-field pole. Kalamazoo answered with a run in the 3rd, thanks to a hard-hit single by Lawson Knight (Western Texas) and some nifty baserunning by Carter Smith. After both teams&#8217; quiet fourth and fifth inning, the Growlers&#8217; bats exploded for 6 runs in the 6th inning, highlighted by a 2 RBI double for Carter Smith (GVSU), who finished with a 3-4 line at the plate. The Kingfish were able to jump on the Growler&#8217;s bullpen late and piled on 5 runs to take the lead, which they held onto through the top of the ninth for the win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Growlers will be back in action again tomorrow night in Kenosha at 6:35 Central Time. The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. Having completed its\u2019 27<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 22 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, over 250 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and MLB Gold Glove finalist and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TOR).
