\n\tLeague is closing in on 1 million fans\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRochester, Minn. – The Northwoods League set an all-time attendance record of 973,950 fans following the games on August 3.  This number tops the 2012 season when 945,861 fans came through Northwoods League ballparks.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t“We are very excited to be closing in on 1 million fans for the season,” said Northwoods League Vice President Matt Bomberg. “Hitting this milestone is a great testament to the amazing fan support we have garnered over our 21 seasons.”<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe additions of both the Kalamazoo Growlers and Kenosha Kingfish to the league this year have been key to reaching this milestone. Both teams rank in the top five in league attendance, with the Growlers ranked third overall, attracting an average of 2,106 fans a night and the Kingfish not far behind with 2,071 per night. Both teams are garnering a lot of attention within their communities and hope to carry this success to future seasons.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBarring any major weather issues the Northwoods League expects to reach the one million fan mark in the next two to three days. And in doing so, the Northwoods League will become the first summer collegiate league to draw one million fans in a season.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. The 20-year old summer collegiate league is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, 120 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
