\n\tKENOSHA, WI – The Kenosha Kingfish scored five runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Kalamazoo Growlers 7-2 on Friday night at Simmons Field.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tWith the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Zach Weigel (Seton Hall) led off with a single and stole second base. After a strikeout, Growler reliever Dylan Roberts (KVCC) intentionally walked Eric Filia (UCLA) to set up a potential double play. Jeremy Vasquez (Florida) met that strategy with a line drive single to right field that got by John Soteropulos (California) and trickled to the warning track. Both runs scored, while Vasquez ended up on third base. Alex Dunlap (Stanford) brought home Vasquez on a sac fly that made it 5-2 for the home side.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tTarrin Beachy (Huntington) surrendered a pair more Kenosha runs in the eighth. A walk, single, sac bunt, and walk loaded the bases with one out for Thursday night hero Alex Borglin (Central Michigan), who lifted a sac fly to center to score one. Filia followed with a base hit to bring home one more and give the game its final margin.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tDewitt native Ryan Orr (Kalamazoo College) closed out the Growlers (8-29, 16-54) in the ninth to clinch the second half South Division crown for the Kingfish (25-9, 48-22), who unified the title by winning the first half as well.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tJ.R. Holloway (San Jacinto CC, 4-1) earned the win by tossing a scoreless seventh inning for Kenosha. Roberts (0-1) took the loss by surrendering three runs (two earned) in his one inning.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Growlers took an early lead when Angelo Armenta (USC) doubled in the third. Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) then lined a single into left plate Armenta and make it 1-0. The Kingfish tied it in the fourth when Borglin walked, stole a base, and eventually scored on a Vasquez groundout.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tKalamazoo snatched the lead back in the top of the fifth on back-to-back two-out doubles by Drew Farmer (Western Michigan) and Armenta, but Pat McInerney (Illinois) tied it on one swing in the bottom of the fifth to set up the big finish.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tCole Schaefer (Coastal Carolina) did not factor into the decision after a stellar final start in a Kalamazoo uniform. The Portage native allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings, walking one and striking out six on 104 pitches. He struck out Collin Dupree (Montevallo) with two on and two out to end the sixth and complete the quality start.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tArmenta led the Growlers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI. Fletcher extended his hitting streak to 15 games with his third-inning single.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tWeigel and McInerney each had two hits for the Kingfish, while Vasquez plated a pair of runs. Filia increased his RBI total to 53 on the season, good for second in the Northwoods League.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Growlers now make their final stop of the season in Mequon for a weekend set with the Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch from Kapco Park is set for 7:35 p.m. EDT on Saturday.\n<\/p>\n
