Kenosha Gives Up 11 Runs in First Five Frames, Gets Swept at Home<\/b><\/p>\n

Kenosha, WI – <\/b>The Kenosha Kingfish were blown out 13-1 by the Traverse City Pit Spitters at Historic Simmons Field Saturday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenosha has now lost three straight contests, while the 2021 Northwoods League Champions have won four of their last five.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kingfish starting pitching struggles continued, as they gave up a run in the opening frame to the Pit Spitters to make it a fifth straight game where their opponent had struck first.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traverse City scored in each of the first five frames to jump out to an early 11-run lead, and by the sixth inning, Kenosha position player Trent Lawrence (Morton) was on the mound.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kyle Hayes (Kirkwood CC) was one of several Pit Spitters to explode on offense. Hayes was 2-for-5 with a team-leading four RBI and a run.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vytas Valincius (Illinois) had the only two hits for the \u2018Fish; he went 2-for-4 with a triple and the lone run scored.<\/span><\/p>\n

Michigan State University\u2019s very own Nick Powers (1-0) got the win in his Northwoods League debut. Powers threw for five innings of one-run baseball while giving up just one hit and striking out three.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Louisville\u2019s Ben Wiegman (0-2) took the loss after allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout in just one inning of work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the victory, Traverse City (5-1) holds sole possession of the lead in the Great Lakes East by one game over the Kalamazoo Growlers (4-2).<\/span><\/p>\n

Kenosha (2-4) now sits alone at fifth place in the subdivision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The boys in blue will go on a two-game road trip to face off against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks (1-5).<\/span><\/p>\n

First pitch for game one of the series will be at 5:05 PM CST on June 4.<\/span><\/p>\n
