{"id":15972,"date":"2023-06-25T20:13:01","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T01:13:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/kenosha-kingfish\/?p=15972"},"modified":"2023-06-25T20:19:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T01:19:32","slug":"rockers-dethrone-kingfish-8-2-split-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/kenosha-kingfish\/2023\/06\/25\/rockers-dethrone-kingfish-8-2-split-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Rockers Dethrone Kingfish 8-2, Snap Win Streak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Green Bay Rattles Off Seven Unanswered to Snap Kenosha\u2019s Win Streak<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Green Bay, WI &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Kenosha Kingfish fell 8-2 to the Green Bay Rockers in a rain-shortened game for their first loss since June 21.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the first two at bats wrapped up, a torrential downpour pushed the game back to a 4:05 PM CST resumption time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kenosha came out and scored in the first frame, but Green Bay put up seven of the next eight runs to snap Kenosha\u2019s four-game win streak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cole Gober (Eastern Illinois University) served as the Kingfish\u2019s spark at the plate. Gober went 2-for-3 with a walk as the only member of the offense to reach base three times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kyle West (West Virginia University) provided plenty of support for the Rockers&#8217; offense. West went 1-for-2 with a three-run shot (his sixth of the season) and three walks on the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dickinson College hurler Grayson Walker (2-1) earned the win to give Green Bay the victory; Walker was deemed the most effective reliever after giving up just one hit in four shutout innings of baseball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UCLA southpaw Christopher Grothues (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Kenosha\u2019s starter allowed three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in an inning and two thirds of work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With the loss, Kenosha (13-14) remains at fourth place in the Great Lakes East, but they\u2019re now four games off of the division lead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Green Bay (16-12) sits in first place in the Great Lakes West, as they hold a tie with Wausau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Kingfish will head home to begin a stretch of six games in seven days at Historic Simmons FIeld. Tomorrow\u2019s contest is against the Kokomo Jackrabbits with the first game beginning at 6:35 PM CST.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">###<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Kenosha Kingfish are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, 300 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (NYM), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019\/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2021 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove winner and 2019 Second Team All-MLB shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX).
