\n\tKENOSHA, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (7-3) defeated the Battle Creek Bombers (7-3) by a score of 5-3 on Thursday at Historic Simmons Field. The win was the fourth straight for the Kingfish and seventh in their last eight contests, and moved them into a tie with Battle Creek for second in the Northwoods League South division.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Bombers dented the scoreboard first in this game, continuing a trend of the Kingfish trailing in all ten games they’ve played this season. Battle Creek touched home plate in the second inning of this one after a leadoff double by first baseman J.D. Mundy (Virginia Tech), who came around to score on an RBI single by shortstop Nikola Vasic (McHenry County College).\n<\/p>\n
\n\tKenosha was once again quick to respond, however, as shortstop Korby Batesole (Fresno State) reached on a bunt single in his first plate appearance of the summer, and got to third on a double by third baseman Ben Troike (Illinois) and scored on an RBI groundout by catcher Mark Skonieczny (Illinois). First baseman Derek Bangert gave Kenosha its first lead of the game one inning later with a solo home run to left field, his fourth of the season.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Kingfish were able to pull away in the sixth inning, during which they sent nine batters to the plate. Center fielder Connor Doyle (University of San Diego) and right fielder Tyler Paulsen (Illinois State) began the rally with a pair of one-out singles, which were followed by back-to-back walks. Second baseman Mike Madej (Purdue) singled home a run with the bases loaded and Batesole walked home another, and the Kingfish emerged from the inning with a 5-1 lead.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBattle Creek made things interesting late with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but the bullpen tandem of right-handers Justin Hasek (Galveston CC) and Alex Manasa (Jackson CC) was able to seal the win.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tRight-hander Logan Wiley (Missouri State) earned the win for Kenosha on the mound, starting the game and lasting five innings with one run allowed on three hits, striking out four and walking two.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tBatesole went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in his Kingfish debut, while Bangert finished 1-for-3 with a homer and a walk.\n<\/p>\n
