\n\tKENOSHA, Wis. – The Kenosha Kingfish (15-9) amassed all of their offense in a single inning Thursday, and in doing so defeated the Rockford Rivets (13-10) by a score of 5-2 at Historic Simmons Field. The win secured a sweep of this week’s home-and-home series against Rockford, who Kenosha also defeated in ten innings Wednesday 9-7.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Rivets began the game with five doubles in the first four innings off of left-handed Kingfish starter Michael Costanzo (Austin Peay), but Costanzo was able to spread those out enough to limit them to just two runs. Rockford scored their first run in the second inning after a leadoff double by left fielder J.C. DeMuri (Quincy), who scored three batters later on a wild pitch.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Rivets added another run in the fourth, but it didn’t come easy. First baseman Bren Spillane (Illinois) doubled to start the inning and reached third on a wild pitch, but was thrown out attempting to score when the subsequent throw back to home plate was overthrown. DeMuri knocked his second double in as many at-bats two batters later, and came around to score on a double by catcher Hunter Feduccia (LSU), giving Rockford a 2-0 lead.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tRivets starter Evan Snyder (Parkland CC) cruised through the first four innings of this one, limiting the Kingfish to no runs on just one hit and one walk, but came undone in the fifth. He surrendered a lead-off single to third baseman Tim Millard (Dallas Baptist), then loaded the bases with no outs on a walk and a hit by pitch. Second baseman Anthony Warneke (San Diego City) drove in a run with an RBI single, which was followed by a bases loaded walk issued to center fielder Connor Doyle (University of San Diego). A wild pitch and two sacrifice flies later, the Kingfish had flipped the game on its head and held a 5-2 lead.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Rivets had their best chance to flip things back in their favor when they loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh, but left-hander Davis Schwab (Johnson CC) entered the game and immediately induced a line-out double play to the shortstop and a flyout to end the inning.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tSchwab allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way, both with two outs, to finish with three shutout innings and a save.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tCostanzo earned the win in this game, pitching six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk while striking out eight.\n<\/p>\n
\n\tCatcher Cameron Comer (Virginia) finished 2-for-4 to maintain a .500 batting average through seven games for the Kingfish. First baseman Derek Bangert (Bradley) and right fielder Mike Madej (Purdue) each walked twice, and shortstop Ben Troike (Illinois) walked and was hit by a pitch.\n<\/p>\n
