The Kenosha Kingfish are pleased to announce the signing of three more players from the University of Florida, the reigning College World Series Champion. \u00a0\u00a0Pitcher Colton Gordon, catcher Jonah Girand and infielder\/outfielder Shane Shifflet join teammate Nick Long for the upcoming Kingfish season.<\/p>\n
\u201cFlorida is one of the best programs in college baseball.\u00a0 They have been on a run where they are in the College World Series almost every season this decade,\u201d said Kingfish Manager Duffy Dyer. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a number of Gator players with the Kingfish over the years and they have played really well for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gordon is a 6\u20193\u201d 210-pound freshman left-handed pitcher from Bradenton, FL.\u00a0 He was ranked as the sixth left handed pitching recruit in the state for 2017.\u00a0 In his senior year in high school, he was 4-2 with a 1.21 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 52 innings of work for Lakewood Ranch High School.\u00a0 He was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game All American Honorable Mention selection.<\/p>\n
Girand, a right-handed hitting catcher is a 6\u20190\u201d 200-pound junior out of Winter Park, FL.\u00a0 He is a transfer from Seminole State Community College.\u00a0 Out of high school he was ranked as the 39th<\/sup> best catcher in the nation.\u00a0 Last spring at Seminole State he hit .256 with 11 RBI, four homers and 11 runs scored.\u00a0 He spent the 2017 summer with the Collegiate Baseball League Europe Champion La Rochelle (France) Admirals.<\/p>\n Shifflet is a 5\u201910\u201d switch-hitting freshman from Venice, FL who can play in the infield and outfield.\u00a0 He was ranked as the number 21 shortstop in the entire country out of high school last season.\u00a0 He was a member of the 2015 state champion and 2016 runner up Venice Senior High School teams.<\/p>\n \u201cAdding these three players from the University of Florida is a huge deal for the Kingfish,\u201d said General Manager Scott Preimesberger.\u00a0 \u201cThe Gators have a great program as evident by their College World Series championship in 2017 and six appearances in Omaha since 2010.\u201d<\/p>\n Opening Day for the Kingfish is May 29th<\/sup> against the 2017 South Division Champion Battle Creek Bombers.\u00a0 The game begins at 6:35 PM at Historic Simmons Field. \u00a02018 marks the fifth season of Kingfish Baseball in Kenosha.<\/p>\n Meijer 7 Game Packs, season ticket packages, partial season tickets and group outings are now on sale.
