Kenosha, Wis. \u2013 The Kingfish (13-21) took on the Lakeshore Chinooks (16-19) in a seven inning doubleheader, making up for the game last Wednesday, June 27th, that was rained out. The Chinooks took the first game 6-3, but the Kingfish answered with a 2-1 walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to new catcher Bryce Carter (Stanford).<\/span><\/p>\n

In game one, Trent Palmer (Jacksonville) got his first start of the year for the Fish, going five strong innings, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out six. Josh Serio (UW Milwaukee) relieved Palmer after his efforts and four runs in two-thirds of an inning, resulting in his third loss of the season. <\/span><\/p>\n

Brady Kais (McHenry CC) was the final pitcher of the night for the Kingfish, going one and one-third innings in his 14th appearance of the season. His final line was two runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinooks went through two pitchers in the first game, starting with Konnor Ash (Missouri). He earned his second win on the summer after going five complete innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six. Joe Gahm got his second save of the year after coming in for the last two innings against the Kingfish, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the second game, Kaleb Schmidt (Drury University) got the call for the Fish to start the game. Schmidt pitched a very impressive 5.2 innings, allowing only one hit, one unearned run and struck out seven. Although he got a no decision for his efforts, he kept the Kingfish in the game with his great performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keanu Mendez (Concordia St. Paul) followed Schmidt and earned his second win of the season after going 1.1 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out two.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinooks called on Kevin Tibor (Carthage) to start the second game and even though he got the loss for the game, he pitched the whole game for Lakeshore. He went 6.2 innings, and allowed only two earned runs. His loss was handed to him by brand new player, Bryce Carter, who showed up just before the first game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other offensive leaders for the Fish was Cade Cabbiness (Oklahoma State) who hit a double in the seventh inning to lead the way for the walk-off victory, and Nick Elsen who had a double that scored the only run up until Bryce Carter delivered in the seventh.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kingfish hope to carry this momentum into tomorrow when they travel to take on Fond Du Lac on Wednesday and Thursday, and then they return to Historic Simmons Field to face the Mallards. The game Friday, July 6th, against Madison has a first pitch time set for 7:05. <\/span><\/p>\n
