KENOSHA, Wis. \u2013 \u00a0Matt Padre (Manhattan) delivered a go-ahead two out single in the eighth inning to help the Kenosha Kingfish earn their first sweep of the season, topping the Traverse City Pit Spitters by a final score of 6-4.<\/p>\n
The Pit Spitters took an early 1-0 lead on a Kam Smith (Northern Illinois) RBI groundout to plate Hudson Byorick (Wofford) in the third inning.<\/p>\n
The Kingfish responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. Kenosha tied the game when an Ethan Owens (Drury) fly ball bounced over the left field fence for a ground double that drove in Joey Scaffidi (Wisconsin-Milwaukee). Then Mitchell Buban (Wisconsin-Milwaukee) added another run with an RBI groundout. Zach Nogalski (Wisconsin-Milwaukee) lined a ball into left-center field give Kenosha its third run of the inning. Charles Middleton (Sierra) knocked in Nogalski with a two-out single that landed in front of the right fielder.<\/p>\n
Traverse City cut its deficit to two at 4-2 in the fifth inning on Andrew Morrow\u2019s (Michigan State) first RBI hit of the year.<\/p>\n
Kingfish starting pitcher Ben Stephens (Eastern Illinois) worked around five walks to allow just two runs over five innings while striking out six.<\/p>\n
The Pit Spitters added another run in the sixth inning on a Byorick sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3.<\/p>\n
Traverse City tied the game up at four in the seventh inning on an Evan Maday (Hope) double down the left field line that scored Smith.<\/p>\n
The Kingfish retook the lead in the eighth inning on a bases loaded two out RBI single by Padre to give Kenosha a 6-4 edge.<\/p>\n
Patrick Tomfohrde locked down the save with a one-two-three ninth inning to give the Kingfish their first sweep of 2019.<\/p>\n
Keith Kutzler (Wisconsin-Whitewater) earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-2. Garret Simmons (Ball State) took the loss for his first decision of 2019.<\/p>\n
