KENOSHA, Wis. \u2013 The Kenosha Kingfish (11-17) topped the Rockford Rivets (13-13) after an hour-long rain delay on Sunday at Simmons Field by a final score of 6-1.<\/p>\n
The win gave Kenosha a 3-2 series victory over the Rivets.<\/p>\n
Roberto Pena (Florida) scored the game\u2019s first run in the third inning on a wild pitch to give the Kingfish the edge. Mike Jarvis (San Diego State) knocked in two more Kingfish to give the team a 3-0 lead with a single on a pop up that Rivets second baseman Josh Dudden (Creighton) lost in the sun.<\/p>\n
The Rivets answered with a run in the fourth inning on a bloop single by Dudden to make the score 3-1.<\/p>\n
Kingfish starting pitcher Kaleb Schmidt (Drury) allowed one run over four-plus innings and gave up two hits and five walks. He also struck out a season-high eight batters. The effort gave Kenosha a 1.13 ERA starter\u2019s ERA over the course of the five-game series.<\/p>\n
Matthew Plisko (Macalester) relieved Schmidt in the fifth inning with runners on first and second and no outs and gave up a single but stranded the bases loaded with three soft groundouts.<\/p>\n
Pena hit a two-out bases clearing double in the seventh inning to score Jarvis, Ryan Knernschield (Eastern Illinois) and Zach Nogalski (Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and extend Kenosha\u2019s lead to 6-1.<\/p>\n
Pena was the only player with multiple hits for either team on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI.<\/p>\n
Plisko threw four-plus shutout innings in relief, giving up three hits and two walks while striking out four.<\/p>\n
Troy Hickey (Madison College) came on with no outs in the ninth inning and stranded a pair of baserunners to close out the win.<\/p>\n
Plisko got the win for Kenosha. Kyle Seebach (Northern Illinois) took the loss for Rockford after giving up three runs in four innings.<\/p>\n
Kenosha has its first scheduled off day of the season on Monday. The team returns to action at 7:05 p.m. CT on Tuesday evening at Simmons Field when it hosts Kalamazoo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
