During six games in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Filia went 5-19, .263, and started each event in right field. In the gold medal game against Japan, Filia recorded the first hit for Team USA and went 1-3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2015, Filia was an outfielder for the Kenosha Kingfish. In that season for the Kingfish, Filia batted .340 with 48 runs and a league-leading 55 RBIs. He finished the season leading the team in hits, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases. Filia was named the Most Valuable Player of the Northwoods League All-Star Game. He hit .375 in the Northwoods League Playoffs and led the Kingfish to a Summer Collegiate World Series Championship Title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Filia played college baseball for the University of California-Los Angeles Bruins, during which time he was a member of the first Bruins team to win a national championship after defeating Mississippi State University 8-0 in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 20th round, 597th overall pick, of the 2016 MLB Draft. In 2016 he played 68 games for the Mariners&#8217; minor league affiliate the Everett AquaSox. For the Aquasox, Filia hit .362 with 89 hits, four of which were home runs, and 46 RBIs. He continued playing at the Double-A level in 2017 and 2018 before playing Triple-A in 2019 and 2021 with the Tacoma Rainiers.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seattle Mariners outfielder Eric Filia helped the U.S. Olympic team take the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
