\n\tLa Crosse, Wis. –<\/strong>The sophomore from Moraga, California is returning for his second season in a Logger uniform.  Austin is the son of Chris and Matt Rei and has a younger brother named Phillip.  Austin's uncle Fran Mullins played in the Major Leagues in the 1980s for the White Sox, Giants, and Indians.  His uncle also has given him plenty of advice over the years.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2014, Austin is serving as the primary catcher for the Huskies.  He currently has a six game hit streak and has hit safely in last 10 starts. He has 19 starts at catcher and has thrown out last 6 steal attempts.  Rei leads team with .433 avg in Pac-12 play and hit .391 (18-46), 11 RBIs  in March. He was 5-11 (.455) in USC series and went 2-4 with 2 RBI in opener at USC and was 2-5 with an RBI and caught all 14 innings of 8-3 win . Rei batted .625 (5-8) in Arizona series with two 2B's, five RBI, two runs. Austin was 2-3 with four RBI in Husky Ballpark opener, 2-5 in 2nd game and 1-2 in series finale.  Austin went 2-5, two runs, RBI on March 9 vs. Santa Clara and 2-4, 2B, two RBI in UC Davis series.  Rei hit and scored in each game vs. Michigan during the opening Texas St. Tourney.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the Loggers in 2013, Austin played in 37 games serving as the team's primary catcher.  He finished the season with a .275 batting average while hitting two home runs and knocking in 12 RBI.  Rei also finished the season with eight doubles and stole two bases.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t
\n\tIn 2013, he made 17 starts as the Husky catcher during his freshman season.  Rei played in all three, and started two, at catcher in the season-opening series at UC Davis where he went 1-3 with an RBI in first start, Feb. 16 (game one) at UCD. Went 1-4 with two runs in second start (fourth game of Davis series) Austin also started three of four games behind the plate at Lamar, where he didn't allow a stolen base (only attempt was caught). Rei started first game of the series vs. Cal Poly and played in the third game at LSU (defense only) He started two of three games at UCLA, going 2-6 with a walk in the series. Against Seattle Univ. went 2-for-4 with an RBI April 2. Austin started behind the plate in the third game of the Oregon State series.  1-3 with a double and two RBI in the Huskies' win over Seattle Univ. on May 7, and started behind the plate May 11 vs. Utah. Austin started game three of Washington State series (May 19), going 1-for-3 with an RBI. He also started two of the three games May 24-26 vs. Arizona State and went 1-2 with a run, a walk and a HBP in the season finale May 26.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAustin attended Campolindo High School where he earned four varsity letters at Campolindo under for coach Max Luckhurst and was team captain as a junior and senior. In 2012, helped Campolindo to win the CIF North Coast Section Division II championship, beating Dougherty Valley in the title game at the Oakland Coliseum. Rei helped lead the Cougars to a 23-4-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in the state (Division II) as a senior. He also helped lead Campolindo to three consecutive Diablo Foothill Athletic League championships and three straight district titles. Austin won a gold glove award sophomore through senior years and was named team MVP as a sophomore. He was also named first-team All-DFAL as a junior and senior, also played football as a freshman. Austin was drafted by the Twins in the 37th round of the 2012 MLB Draft.\n<\/div>\n
