{"id":5775,"date":"2018-04-09T16:57:57","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T16:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/la-crosse-loggers\/?p=5775"},"modified":"2018-04-09T16:57:57","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T16:57:57","slug":"weekend-recap-april-9-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwoodsleague.com\/la-crosse-loggers\/2018\/04\/09\/weekend-recap-april-9-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekend Recap &#8211; April 9, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><u>Weekend Recap<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>McMahon and Price toss gems, Kendall helps UCLA take series vs. #2 Stanford<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>La Crosse, Wis. \u2013 <\/strong>The weekend was highlighted by outstanding outings on the mound from local talent Mason McMahon (UW-La Crosse) and right-hander Garret Price (Liberty) in his first start of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Mason McMahon earned the complete game victory in UW-La Crosse\u2019s conference opener at Illinois Institute of Technology, improving to 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA on the year. The returning Logger allowed just one run on four hits while striking out 14 batters in the Eagles\u2019 6-1 win in game one. It marked his fourth game this season with at least 10 strikeouts, and the junior has collected 67 punch outs in 40 innings thus far.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty\u2019s Garret Price made his first start of the season vs. Campbell on Friday night and did not disappoint, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the Flames\u2019 9-1 victory. Price picked up his fourth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.51 after tossing 7.1 innings and surrendering one run on two hits.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Kendall continued his breakout season for the UCLA Bruins, going a combined 5-for-16 last week and boosting his season average to .344. Kendall added three walks and scored seven runs for the Bruins, including his first career home run in Tuesday\u2019s victory over Loyola Marymount. The now #17 ranked Bruins took two out of three from #2 Stanford over the weekend, improving to 19-8 overall and 8-4 in the Pac-12 Conference.<\/p>\n<p>It was another weekend of strong pitching as Sean Frontzak made two clean appearances in Saint Louis\u2019s three-game sweep of UMass. The sidearm righty surrendered only two hits and struck out four in 3.0 total innings, dropping his ERA to a microscopic 0.55. Duke lefty Bill Chillari picked up his fourth victory of the season in a midweek start against Campbell, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five for the #14 ranked Blue Devils. Hunter Davis also made two strong appearances last week for Duke, totaling 6.0 innings of relief and allowing only one run. Returning Logger Grant Judkins showcased his twofold ability in Iowa\u2019s weekend series vs. Ohio St., tossing 3.0 scoreless innings of relief in game one before adding the go-ahead RBI double in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> inning of game three\u2019s 2-1 Hawkeye victory.<\/p>\n<p>Other notables include Jamal O\u2019Guinn hitting 5-for-14 with three walks and five runs scored last week, helping USC take two of three from Arizona St. San Diego\u2019s Shane McGuire had a huge game on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, adding a walk and an RBI while scoring three runs. Future Logger teammate Brhet Bewley added a two-run home run on Friday, his third of the season as the Toreros won two of three vs. Loyola Marymount.<\/p>\n<p>Weekend recaps are produced every Monday with updates on how our future Loggers are performing at their respective universities.
