Coach Brandi Alonzo enters her 3rd season with the La Crosse Steam.<\/p>\n

Brandi Alonzo joined Viterbo at the start of the 2015 season and enters her 11th season as the head coach of the softball program.<\/p>\n

From year one to year two, Alonzo doubled the V-Hawks win total from 5 to 10, then more than doubled it again in year three with 22 wins. She now has a total of 104 victories. <\/p>\n

Alonzo has had eight players receive All-Conference Honors, and eight players named NAIA Scholar Athletes. <\/p>\n

Prior to joining the V-Hawks, Alonzo spent two seasons serving as assistant coach at NCAA DIII Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Alonzo helped the team win 39 games after the Vikings tallied just 22 victories the previous two years. In 2014, Alonzo helped improve the team’s batting average to .321, the Vikings’ highest average in over 15 years. In 2013, Lawrence finished as the runner-up in Midwest Conference finish with a school record .966 fielding percentage. In addition to organizing defense workouts and infield and outfield drills, Alonzo created and implemented the team’s strength and conditioning program.<\/p>\n

Before her tenure in in Appleton, Alonzo, a native of Franklinton, Louisiana, spent two years coaching at Louisiana State University-Eunice, a National Junior College power. As assistant coach with the Bengals, Alonzo helped LSU-E to 111 wins, two NJCAA DII Region 23 Champions, and a 2011 National Championship. In her first year, the Bengals set tournament records for runs scored, team batting average, and fielding percentage.<\/p>\n

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Alonzo has spent time as an administrator, individual hitting instructor, and manager at Players Choice in Appleton. At LSU-E, she created and provided oversight to fundraising events, organized team camps and summer camps, and supervised multiple student workers.<\/p>\n

From 2012-14, Alonzo worked as the Athletic Director at UW-Fox Valley in Menasha, Wisconsin. While at UW-Fox, Alonzo was in charge of overseeing all six sport teams, event scheduling, official scheduling, budgetary items, website updating, and more.<\/p>\n

Alonzo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration from the University of Southern Misissippi where she received a full scholarship to play softball. She started all four years, playing over 200 games and earning Conference-USA All-Freshman team honors at USM.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Jan Protsman is in his second year as an assistant softball coach at UW-La Crosse in 2025-26. A native of Lansing, Iowa, Protsman graduated from Viterbo University (Wis.) in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He played baseball for the V-Hawks for two years before starting to serve as an assistant softball coach.<\/p>\n

He has coached at levels from 10 and under through college. Protsman has been involved with many area high school and travel ball over the last 15 years while providing hitting instruction from the Wisconsin\/Minnesota\/Iowa area for 20 years. <\/p>\n

Protsman played at Kee High (Iowa) H.S., appearing in three state championships, winning one title. He played for the winningest coach in Iowa history, Gene Schultz. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
