The 2026 season will be Mikel Moreno’s second season with the Lakeshore Chinooks, bringing extensive experience and a strong track record of success at multiple levels of baseball.<\/p>\n

A former standout outfielder at Arizona State University, Moreno played a key role in leading the Sun Devils to the College World Series final in 1998 before spending several seasons in the Chicago Cubs minor league system. He transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Central Arizona College and the University of New Orleans, as well as head of player development at Arizona State.<\/p>\n

Since 2015, Moreno has been the varsity baseball coach at Queen Creek High School in Arizona, where he led the Bulldogs to a state championship in 2024 in Arizona\u2019s top high school division. His ability to develop young talent and build competitive teams aligns with the Chinooks\u2019 commitment to player development and success on the field.<\/p>\n

As the fifth manager in franchise history, Moreno will oversee the development of a roster featuring talent from top collegiate programs across the country. His leadership and extensive network within the baseball community will play a key role in shaping the future of the Chinooks organization.<\/p>\n

Lee Tunnell<\/span><\/span> brings an extensive baseball r\u00e9sum\u00e9 to the Lakeshore Chinooks as Pitching Coach for the 2026 season. A former Major League pitcher, Tunnell played six seasons in the big leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/span><\/span>, St. Louis Cardinals<\/span><\/span>, and Minnesota Twins<\/span><\/span>. He was part of the Cardinals\u2019 1987 World Series team and led the National League in consecutive scoreless innings during the 1983 season.<\/p>\n

Following his playing career, Tunnell transitioned into coaching and scouting, spending more than two decades developing pitchers at the professional level. His coaching stops include the Texas Rangers<\/span><\/span>, Milwaukee Brewers<\/span><\/span>, and Cincinnati Reds<\/span><\/span>, where he helped mentor multiple Major League All-Stars and key bullpen arms. He also served in international scouting roles with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks<\/span><\/span> organization.<\/p>\n

Tunnell\u2019s ties to Wisconsin make his addition especially meaningful, having served on the Brewers\u2019 Major League staff from 2012\u20132018 and earning his bachelor\u2019s degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College<\/span><\/span> in 2018. His decades of professional experience, player development expertise, and Midwest roots make him a valuable leader for the Chinooks pitching staff in 2026.<\/p>\n

Brian Gregory enters his second season as pitching coach at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, where he oversees the development of the Coyotes\u2019 pitching staff. Under his guidance, Chandler-Gilbert led the conference with 9.24 strikeouts per nine innings while also posting a conference-best 2.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, reflecting his emphasis on attacking the zone and developing command.<\/p>\n

Gregory previously served as the head baseball coach at Skyline High School from 2022 to 2025, where he built a competitive program from the ground up. After a 7\u201320 record in his first season, Gregory steadily developed the team into a consistent winner, improving to 6\u201319 in year two before a breakthrough 16\u201311 campaign in his third season. In 2024, his pitching staff set a school record with 184 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched, highlighting his impact on player development and pitching performance. He followed that with a 15\u201313 record in his final season, completing a significant program turnaround and establishing a culture centered on toughness, accountability, and player development.<\/p>\n

Gregory\u2019s commitment to player development has been evident throughout his career, as he has guided athletes to individual recognition, including All-Conference honors. Known for his attention to detail and emphasis on fundamentals, he has established a team-first mentality that translates to success in close games.<\/p>\n

Prior to his coaching career, Gregory was a standout catcher who played at Cabrillo High School under legendary coach Jon Osborne before continuing his career at Santa Barbara City College. He went on to play two seasons at California State University Dominguez Hills, where he was known for his defensive ability behind the plate and was named team captain during his senior season.<\/p>\n

Gregory and his wife, Matiana, have two daughters, Leighton and Stella.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Jake Yellovich played for the Edgewood College Eagles from 2012-2016. He then began his coaching career before graduating from Edgewood at Lafollette High School in Madison, Wisconsin in 2017. This was followed by stints at Verona High School, in Verona, Wisconsin, and Waunakee High School in Waunakee, Wisconsin. During this time, he also began working for Woodhall Baseball\u2019s Silver Sluggers where he gave individual lessons in hitting and fielding, as well as coaching the top 17\/18u travel ball team. This time helped him hone his skills in ensuring athletes were ready for the leap to college baseball and beyond.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Jake began coaching for Carroll University. He began as a volunteer infield coach and worked his way up onto the paid staff including infield, outfield, and hitting coach, guiding the Pioneers to 5 conference tournaments.\u00a0 <\/span>Beginning in the 2025-2026 season, Jake was announced as the Associate Head Coach.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2024, Jake had a short stint with the Lakeshore Chinooks helping in the athletes in the areas of hitting and fielding. In the summer of 2025, Jake began coaching with Top Tier Baseball Academy in Illinois, again working with college-bound athletes on their 17\/18u teams.<\/p>\n

Jake is excited to be back with the Chinooks in a more defined role this summer. He looks forward to helping athletes develop for not only their college teams, but eventually the major leagues. Jake has almost a decade of experience coaching at the pre-college and college level and is excited to develop players\u00a0 <\/span>with the Chinooks.<\/p>\n
