No. The players are not paid. They have amateur status and must have college elligibility to play in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>What is the difference between the Northwoods League and other local amateur leagues?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Teams in the Northwoods League feature the very best college players from around the country. Many of the players in this league will eventually get drafted by Major League teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Why is it called a “Wood Bat League?”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During the regular school year when the players are on their university teams, they use composite aluminum bats. Wood Bat Leagues allow players who have aspirations to play professional baseball the opportunity to experience playing with wood bats. It also allows scouts from Major League Baseball teams to see how hitters fare with wood bats.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Will some of the Northwoods League\/Lakeshore Chinooks players end up in the Major Leagues?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, more than 100 players with Northwoods League ties get drafted every year in the Major League Baseball Draft. Out of those players, a number of them will work their way onto Major League Clubs.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are 14 investors in the team comprised of local business executives and people who have a desire to promote baseball. A full list can be found here.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Where do the players come from?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Players on this team are from all over the country. They play predominantly Division I college baseball during the school year and then join Collegiate Summer League teams from June through August.<\/span><\/p>\n

Players are housed with “Host Families.” These are families who would like to have a player stay at their home during the course of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>How long is the season?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

All teams play a 72-game regular season schedule (36 home\/36\u00a0away) from late May thru mid-August. The league is divided into two divisions,\u00a0North and South,\u00a0with playoffs at the end of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets are available to purchase by the public. There are season tickets, group tickets, and individual game tickets sold for all home games. Tickets can be purchased by calling 262-618-4659 or online<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chinooks merchandise is available at the Tackle Box team store\u00a0at Kapco Park on game days. On non-game days or in the offseason, merchandise will be available at the Lakeshore Chinooks’ office located at 983 Badger Circle, Grafton, WI 53024.<\/span><\/p>\n
