Grafton, WI – After being named the Kapco Steel Slugger of 2019, Jake Thompson is adding another award to the list, the Rawlings Big Stick Award. The annual award is given to the player at each position who had the best batting average during the 2019 regular season. Thompson was given the award in the DH position after hitting .355 on the season, fourth best batting average in the league in 2019.<\/p>\n

Thompson’s .355 batting average is good for third all time in the Chinooks record books. His 41 RBI’s places him fourth in the Chinooks record books. After playing at Kentucky, Jake has recently transferred to Oklahoma State.<\/p>\n

The Lakeshore Chinooks are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. Having completed its\u2019 26th<\/sup>\u00a0season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 22 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, over 230 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series Champion Max Scherzer (WAS), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist (CHC) and Brandon Crawford (SFG) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (BOS). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and MLB All-Stars Jordan Zimmermann (DET) and Curtis Granderson (MIA).
