Mequon, Wis. \u2014 A second consecutive scoreless start from Lakeshore starter Tommy Lamb and a two-run lead didn\u2019t snap Lakeshore\u2019s three-game skid.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lamb held the Rockford Rivets to four hits while designated hitter Jackson Gray homered to right field, but a Rivets seventh-inning\u00a0rally changed the complexion of the contest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prepared to battle through extra innings, Rockford (12-15) posted three unanswered runs late\u00a0as Lakeshore (10-18) was unable to contain its opponent and fell to the Rivets, 3-2, Thursday evening at Kapco Park. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe story of our season is we haven\u2019t been getting beaten, we\u2019ve just been beating ourselves, unfortunately,\u201d Akre said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Locked in a ninth-inning stalemate, Lakeshore loaded the bases,\u00a0but shortstop Evan Rice\u00a0flew out into a double play as second baseman Mack Timbrook was doubled up at second base.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re around the game this much, unfortunately that\u2019s part of it,\u201d Akre said of the base running mishap. \u201cIf there\u2019s one person that feels bad about that situation, it\u2019s definitely him [Timbrook], so I feel for him. He\u2019ll learn from it, we\u2019ll all learn\u00a0from it, and that\u2019s just unfortunate those lapses happen in this game.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With new life in the 10th, Rivets first baseman Kevin Bushnell drove home second baseman Jack Bilotta on\u00a0Rockford\u2019s ninth and final hit that yielded the\u00a0game-winning run.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following 12 runs scored in a 10-run loss the night prior, Rockford remained without a run yet began\u00a0its ninth late-inning comeback win\u00a0of the year immediately in\u00a0the seventh.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Back-to-back doubles sliced the Chinooks\u2019 lead in half, 2-1.\u00a0Rivets right fielder Jack Cavanaugh plated left fielder Conner Goodman with an RBI hit to right field and two at-bats later, third baseman Brandon Bannon followed up with a double, scoring Cavanaugh\u00a0to level the contest at two runs apiece.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The exact spark was provided for Rockford, forcing\u00a0Akre signaled for left-hander Cade Berendt after right-handed reliever Arthur Liebau let the middle of Rockford\u2019s lineup capitalize. Berendt struck out three of the next four batters, temporarily settling the plate attack\u00a0prior to former starter Dorsey\u00a0Chatham\u2019s relinquished RBI single to Bushnell.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt would\u2019ve been nice to start building a little momentum, especially after last night,\u201d Akre said. \u201cThis one stings a little bit when you\u2019re in control of the ball game for seven innings, and we kind of gave it away.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinooks were on the verge of regaining a one-run advantage in the seventh.\u00a0Rice\u2019s one-out double and a wild pitch moved the go-ahead\u00a0run into third base, though Rivets reliever Ryan Green (1-1) struck out Griffin Doersching to eliminate the scoring threat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cToday I just tried to see the ball deep,\u201d Rice said. \u201cI felt like I\u2019ve been a little too aggressive coming out here to the Northwoods League and after getting some at bats, I feel more comfortable and I\u2019m seeing the ball a lot better.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both teams left nine runners on base, while Rockford struck out nine times over Lakeshore\u2019s eight.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chatham was tacked with the loss and Green earned his first victory of the season.\u00a0The Rivets entered Thursday with the third-fewest saves (nine) in the Northwoods League and no save opportunity arose.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to keep these guys focused,\u201d Akre said. \u201cThese are the times of the season where it can get real hard because of the grind this is, and showing up at the ballpark every day, and you start to get a lot of things on your plate with returning to school [and] everything else.\u00a0This is what really separates the guys that can excel in this game in just coming to the ballpark every day and continuing to stay locked in.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Up next, Lakeshore travels to Rockford on Friday\u00a0for the second game of a home-and-home series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
