Grafton, WI – This past weekend, former Chinook Greg Deichmann made his debut with the Chicago Cubs becoming the twelfth alum to make it to the MLB.<\/p>\n
Deichmann played for the Chinooks back in 2015 and would spend most of the summer with the club. He ended his Northwoods League season with a .239 batting average including 5 HR’s and 32 RBI’s.<\/p>\n
Greg would return to LSU to continue playing college baseball. He would go on to be selected by the Oakland A’s in the 2017 draft in the second round. He would be immediately sent to the New York-Penn League with the Vermont Lake Monsters where he would appear in 46 games. Deichmann would start to turn heads ending the season with a .274 batting average collecting 8 HR’s and 30 RBI’s.<\/p>\n
He would start the 2018 season with the A’s rookie level team in Arizona then proceed to be promoted to the A’s Single A club, the Stockton Ports. Appearing in 58 games total, Greg would hit for similar power but end the season with just a .216 batting average.<\/p>\n
Greg would be promoted in 2019 to Oakland’s Double A club, the Midland RockHounds. Appearing in 80 games, Deichmann would collect 11 HR’s and 36 RBI’s with a .219 batting average. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 minor league schedule was cancelled.<\/p>\n
He would start the 2021 season in the Oakland A’s system playing for their Triple A club, Las Vegas Aviators. Shortly before the trade deadline, Deichmann was dealt to the Chicago Cubs. Greg would see action at the Cubs’ Triple A club, the Iowa Cubs, for just seven games before being called up by Chicago this past Friday for the series against the White Sox.<\/p>\n
In his debut with the Cubs on Friday, he would record his first hit, a single to right field. He ended the day 1 for 5 at the plate. After an off day on Saturday, Deichmann would record his first RBI with a single to left Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
