The Lakeshore Chinooks have announced their team awards for the 2012 season. Former manager, John Vodenlich, led the team to a 35-35 record during their inaugural season.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Forrest Chadwick (Southern Maine University) was announced as the team’s 2012 MVP. The MVP award was given to the player who most contributed to the success of the team during the inaugural campaign. Chadwick ended the season with a .301 batting average, 69 hits, 42 runs, 11 home runs, and 52 RBI’s.  Forrest’s hot bat was not the only aspect of his game that contributed to his MVP season; he was also one of three Northwoods League players to have a perfect fielding percentage while committing no errors. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

The Chinooks Pitcher of the Year award was given to Joe Greenfield (Eastern Illinois). Greenfield was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 22nd<\/sup> round of the 2012 draft but opted to continue his collegiate playing career. He appeared in 13 games, 7 of those in a starting role, finished the season with a 2.29 ERA and a 5-1 record including one complete game.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The first ever Kapco Steel Slugger Award was awarded to Eric Aguilera (Illinois State), who was the team’s best offensive weapon. Aguilera finished the season with a .369 batting average, 69 hits, 31 runs, 4 home runs, and 28 RBI’s. Following an appearance in the 2012 All-Star Game, Aguilera’s season was cut short due to injury.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Finally, Charlie Markson (Notre Dame) has been selected for the Robin Yount Award. This award goes to the player that exemplified both on and off of the field the way baseball was meant to be played. Markson was a team leader on and off the field throughout the entire season. A Whitefish bay native, Charlie also had a great relationship with the local community.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The four award recipients will be presented with their 2012 awards on Opening Day May 30th<\/sup> during an on-field presentation prior to the game.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Two award winners, Forrest Chadwick and Joe Greenfield, have announced that they will be returning to the Chinooks roster for the 2013 season. Also returning for the 2013 season will be Eddy Morgan, who will be taking over the field manager position after spending the inaugural season as an assistant coach.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
