Four errors, including two in the late innings, fueled the Madison Mallards eight run come back in a 14-8 loss at the "Duckpond" Tuesday night, forcing game three in the 2013 Northwoods League Southern Division championship series.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All night long, you could feel it was going to be “one of those games”.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakeshore loaded the bases with one out in the first inning. Jared Fon<\/strong> (UW-Whitewater) came across to score on an RBI single by Aaron Machbitz<\/strong> (South Dakota State).  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With Chris Manning<\/strong> (Valporaiso University) batting, Madison starter Reilly Hovis could have been called for a balk but was not and Manning popped out to third.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hovis repeated the same motion two more times against Ryan Krill and finally was called for a balk after the second try but by then it was too late. Sawyer Polen<\/strong> (Kent State University) popped out with the bases loaded to end the threat.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Madison carried momentum into the bottom half of inning number one against starter Tim Faix<\/strong> (Kent State University) scoring four times on five hits. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakeshore got a run back in the third on an RBI double from Machbitz to stem the tide. It was only a matter of time before the offense exploded. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakeshore began the fourth inning with five straight hits en route to five runs to take a 7-2 lead.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Madison yanked the momentum right back in the topsy-turvy affair in the bottom half. Andrew Stevenson<\/strong> (LSU) and Mike Papi<\/strong> (Virginia) collided in the outfield on a ball that should have been caught by Stevenson with ease putting runners at second and third one out. Next thing you know, a walk, two singles, and a ground out pulled Madison to within one at 7-6. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The tension mounted as both teams fired blanks in the fifth and sixth innings.
\nLakeshore was the first to blink.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s been said all year long, leadoff walks will hurt you. Guess what, a leadoff walk lead to more offense for Madison. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Drew Weekes then moved to second on a bad pickoff throw from reliever Jake Tuttle<\/strong> (UWM). After an out, another walk put a runner in scoring position prompting Eddy Morgan to go with his closer Mitchell Sewald<\/strong> (LSU) in the seventh inning. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 He promptly got behind in the count and served up a three run bomb to Kyle Ruchim to give Madison the lead 9-7 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakeshore didn’t go away quietly. A single and a walk put runners at first and second with one out in the eighth inning before a two-out RBI single from Papi made it 9-8. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With the tying run at second and the lead run at first, Donnie Scott decided to go to his closer Danny Sullivan who blew away Machbitz for out number three. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Right then you could feel the air come out of the Chinooks sails.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Everything came unraveled in the bottom of the eighth inning when Brock Stewart reached on an error by Cody Bobbit<\/strong> (Wichita State) leading off the frame. That set off a chain of events that Chinooks fans would like to forget.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another error by Papi in the outfield allowed two runs to score on a single. A two-out double added a another run and Kyle Ruchim added insult to injury with his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, to put the nail in the coffin.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The third and final game in the series is tonight at 6:35 back home at Kapco Park.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
