The Lakeshore Chinooks announced Monday morning that field manager Eddy Morgan would be returning to his role of field manager for the 2014 season. It will be Morgan’s second season as the Chinooks field manager. “Eddy and the staff did a tremendous job with our team this year and we are very excited about having Eddy return as the Field Manager of the Chinooks for the 2014 season. Eddy does a nice job of balancing playing to win along with developing players skills so they return to their colleges better players as well as allowing the kids to have fun while they are here. We all agree, we want the kids to have a meaningful experience and one they look back on fondly,” said Chinooks general manager Dean Rennicke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coach Morgan led the Chinooks on a very memorable and successful campaign in the summer of 2013, taking the team to the Northwoods League Playoffs for the first time. Besides making a playoff appearance, the Chinooks were also the South Division 2nd<\/sup> Half Champions and had the second best overall record in the Northwoods League. Eddy Morgan served as a bench coach for the Chinooks’ inaugural season in 2012 under field manager John Vodenlich.<\/span><\/div>\n

Morgan will also be staying in the lakeshore area year round after he was announced in June as the new baseball coach at Concordia University of Wisconsin, home of Kapco Park. Eddy was previously the head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets. At Superior, Morgan won more games in his six seasons as manager than any other coach in the program’s 40 year history. He looks forward to bringing that success to Concordia in rebuilding their baseball program. Chinooks assistant coach Mark Moriarty will join Morgan’s Concordia coaching staff. The rest of the Chinooks 2014 coaching staff has not yet been announced.<\/span><\/div>\n

The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America. The 2013 season marked the 20th season of Northwoods League baseball. 116 former players have gone on to play Major League baseball.
